Ain’t nothing like a good sad, heartfelt song played at just the right moment to crush a happy mood....

These things that have comforted me, I drive away
This place that is my home I cannot stay

I like them both , but in different ways. I liked Springsteen pre “tunnel of Love” when he was dark, angry, but haven’t really followed him since. I listened to his new lp on NPR and like a number of his new tracks.

I think Springsteen is a brilliant lyricist, when he’s doing melancholia, like in “Downbound Train”, “The River”, “Racing in the Streets”, “Nebraska” “State Trooper”

Of course it’s going to be a tough sell on my lj friends list :/

It was Convergence 6 in Seattle. PFM was recording in LA and one of the committee members (Violet Weary ) [1] did some photo work for him IIRC and she clandestinely flew him up to Seattle to play an unannounced acoustic set. He was billed as “Special Guest Appearance by Bat Wing Candle Wax.”

Playing in front of a Convergence crowd at that time was the equivalent of having him come play at your birthday party.

It was one of my favorite convergences. The Committee rented a cruise Ship and We danced on the top deck in the rain on the Pacific, illuminated by a hazy moonlight. I don’t think it gets much more goth than that. :)

[1] IIRC, Violet was in an old goth band called "Fear of Dolls" in the '90's
