Melancholia

Ain’t nothing like a good sad, heartfelt song played at just the right moment to crush a happy mood....

These things that have comforted me, I drive away
This place that is my home I cannot stay
My only faith's in the broken bones and bruises I display…

From Bruce Springsteen’s -“The Wrestler.”

I suppose it just brings to the surface this underlying melancholy that’s woven into the soul’s fabric. It’s just a part of being human, and in a way it feels good.

Edit: And as quickly as the melancholy washes over, it dissipates with just the right song in rotation;

”Well if the birds can reach the sky
To this land I'll be with you
'Til the sun bursts from your side
With my hands I reach to you
When you think your chance is passing by
When you blow your moon away
I'll bleed like the reed
Fall with your knife
It's here I'll be with you” - Peter Murphy’s “I’ll Fall With Your Knife”

One of my happiest moments of my life was having him show up unannounced at Convergence and play that song for us. Ah, the power of music….
