Infected with Lesion-nairre's on the Lower East Side
Went to see Lesion tonight at one their unfortunately-all-too-rare gigs. One of NYC's most-underappreciated bands, when I first saw Lesion live a few years back I was immediately blown away by their punk/hardcore musical aesthetic combined with the biting wit of Dr. Gustave Hurtz's lyrics.
Now that they have come out with a new CD, "Seniors Ball", it's possible to see them more often, an opportunity I took advantage of as soon as I learned of it. Hard cider in hand, I settled down near the stage to enjoy the show.
Many of the songs were from the new album, like "I am a Giant", "Jump Ramp" and "The Witch's Tit", along with older crowd favorites like "Plain Jane Chainsaw". Frontman Dr. Hurtz gave his usual stellar energetic performance, backed up by guitarist Piss Promise's machine-gun note barrage, Venison's drum assault and newcomer American Art's bass battery. The addictive ear-candy ended all too soon as Cyclone 60 took the stage after them and tried valiantly to allay the crowd's jonesing from the Lesion aural speedball withdrawal.
