"Xander! Xander wake up. It's time to get dressed and pretend that we care about Giles' birthday."

Pretend? Well, OK, yes, Giles’ birthday wasn’t something I felt compelled to celebrate. I mean, wasn’t the poor man old enough? We had to go and shine a big spotlight on his ever increasing fogey-ness? But still, G-Man was one of us - the father figure and Buffster’s Watcher - so we would go and eat cake… or crumpets or whatever the tweed-clad eat at parties.

I just had to work up to getting out of bed and doing the dressing thing.

Once I’m in bed it’s completely against the laws of nature to get up again before morning, even if I did go to bed at five for a round (or two) of Little Xander Goes Spelunking. So, my mind was telling me to get up but my body was revolting against the very notion.

I was trying to ignore Ahn for as long as possible, desperately holding on to a few precious extra moments of mattressy bliss.

*SMACK*

Ow. So much for ignoring her.

"Wake up! I'm not going to that party alone. Buffy is in charge of it, so you know what that means."

Demon attack or badly cooked food? Or both? Hmm… The more I thought about it, the more a good demon attack might just be what this party needed. After all, they always worked to distract us from whatever personal issues had cropped up, so it could be a good shift away from Giles’ rapid approach to geezerville.

"Xander, if you don't hurry and get dressed, then when this is all over there won't be sex."

Damn. For Anya to hold back sex, the sitch had to be serious, which means she was probably upset about having to go and was going to make me suffer as much as possible for accepting the invite.

“Alright, I’m getting’ up,“ I mumbled, setting up and swinging my legs off the bed.”Lemme grab a quick shower and I’ll be ready.”

Ok, this was odd. It was taking longer than normal.

"XANDER?!?!?!"

"Alright, I'm getting up. Lemme grab a quick shower and I'll be ready."

I sighed. You see, he stank right now and therefore was highly in need of a shower. Of course, on the other hand, we didn't have very much time.

Plus, there was the teensy matter of no gift for Giles.

I tugged on his arms until he was standing up. "You smell. Go shower and I'll get Giles' gift." I ran over to look through some of Xander's old junk that he'd never need. Picture of me, picture of me, Mr. Paddle... nope, we couldn't get rid of any of those.

"Oh!" Here was something. Xander's diploma. I took it out of the frame and found a picture of the both of us, then slipped it oh-so-nicely within the frame. There! A perfect gift to show Giles our enduring love of each other, something that he would no doubt appreciate.

"Ok, gift's done! Let's go!" I pulled my high heels on quickly and ran to the bathroom, turning on the cold water. "You're taking too long." I looked down at Mr. Happy and frowned since he didn't appear very happy. Perhaps it was the cold water...?
