I'm in Phenom Penh right now, which is a seriously interesting city, i just met three guys from california here working with drug users, teaching them how to use drugs intelligently and teaching them other life skills. I'm going to go to the center pretty soon to see what they do and whatnot.
Phenom Penh is interesting for other reasons as well. First of all, there are the monkeys. I went to Wat Phenom today and in the garden around the wat were probably around twenty to thirty monkeys... not sure what kind, but you could give them fruit and they'd come right up to you. They tugged at my skirt, and even climbed up me! I do see where the "cheeky monkey" phrase comes from, they take anything they can get their hands on. i had to buy several lots of this funny seed-fruit thing before i could get it so they wouldn't just take the whole lot from me (i ended up putting the plant in my bag and just getting out a few pods at a time). They're vicious too. Once one took a whole plant and i tried to get it back and he showed his teeth to me, it scared the pants off of me. I mean, it's just a little monkey, but they have these big pointy teeth and they hiss.
Also, they're pretty lax about drugs here and last night two people invited me to smoke with them on the balcony overlooking the lake at our backpackers. We sat on hammocks and drank and smoked for four hours, it was beautiful.
