2013 - a year in review

1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Fired a handgun. I was in Las Vegas and decided I wanted to know what it was really like to fire a Glock. Curiosity is satisfied. It _was_ kinda cool ;)
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't really remember what they were, and I suspect I know what they would have been (mostly living healthier), but I didn't keep them. I'll try next year with renewed vigor -- reposted from last year.. and the year before.. and before that..
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Susie from Perth had her second child :)
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope, thankfully!
5. What countries did you visit?
Australia, Canada, USA, Dominican Republic, Hong Kong
6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
2013 was pretty good.
7. What dates from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 25 - Tofu Cousin Janet's wedding, seeing real cousin Tim and aunt and uncle for it
July 9 - going down to Las Vegas for the day and seeing drabbo, pennae and dorothygale
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Becoming an expert in the storage platform we sell?
9. What was your biggest failure?
I'm still addicted to junk food, and do less exercise now I don't walk across campus to lunch every day.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Got food poisoning in Feb, and I'm having an MRI in January for a problem with my hip that is kinda annoying, but otherwise pretty good
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Ticket to MakerFaire NYC!
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
lizbyrd, for continuing to be awesome.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My former boss at UBC, who still seems to have a hate-on for me, despite not having seen him in 18 months now..
14. Where did most of your money go?
Savings. Outgoings mostly to rent, with a travel a close second.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Travel, keeping in contact with friends from far away
16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
Icona Pop - I love it - for being on the radio all the time during our trip through central Australia with Elizabeth's sister and brother
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier. Things are pretty awesome
ii. thinner or fatter? sadly, slightly fatter. up 8 Kgs since March 2012 :P
iii. richer or poorer? Richer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercise? :P
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Waiting in traffic jams at the Massey Tunnel.
20. How will you spend Christmas?
At home with lizbyrd during the day, then over to the tofu cousins.

22. Did you fall in love in 2013?
Stayed in love with Elizabeth :)

24. What was your favourite TV program?
NCIS.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not personally. I read stories about the actions of people I don't know and think they suck.
26. What was the best book you read?
I read a few Kathy Reichs books.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
This is kinda embarrassing, but - Miley Cyrus. She has an amazing voice.
28. What did you want and get?
An iPad mini 4G/64GB ;)
29. What did you want and not get?
A MacBook Pro Retina..
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
I can't remember.. Hobbit/Smaug was pretty good.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Went out to dinner with Liz at Alfa Greco-Roman. I was 34.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A co-worker! Work has been very busy
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
I actually bought a nice belt, casual dress shoes, a suit, and a dinner jacket. I got my bonus cheque deposited into my bank account, and was looking at a huge pile of cash and realised I was wearing a $30 pair of Zellers jeans with holes in them, and a Roots hoodie that needed a wash.
34. What kept you sane?
Liz. TV.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Still Felicia Day. It's a brain crush, honestly.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Anything Tone Abet does.
37. Who did you miss?
I still miss lots of my friends from Perth.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
I met a delightfully weird person at Wincon, who is a spook, and speaks 6 languages. I shall speak no more of this person.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013:
Check which disks are in an aggregate before detaching the shelf from your storage array. You'd think after the first time I would have remembered that... sigh :)
