I've been needing a 'professional'ish wardrobe, in the event that at some point someone decides to employ me. Thanks to the Salvation Army, I've been able to acquire quite a few lovely articles of clothing at a low, low price. The super-duper awesome part of this is that all of the things I picked are 100% natural fibers: cotton, wool, or silk. I am really excited about all the pretty things I have.
Except.
Except...
Most of the clothing I've picked has been nice but not really 'me.' Honestly, I don't know what 'me' is anymore, except in a non-professional context, which generally means 'really comfy poofy pants and a tshirt'. Nevertheless, these lovely blouses and sweaters are definitely lacking a certain Dreya-ishness about them. Since they're such beautiful fabrics, I am loath to go apeshit with my acrylic paints on them (and doesn't acrylic defeat the all-natural purpose anyway?). I have come to the conclusion that I should learn to embroider and embroider my designs.
I know some of you are quite accomplished in this realm, so I'm trolling for advice/resources from you guys first. Are there any really good online sources for instruction? Are there any secret hints to working with/caring for silk and wool that I should know about? Screw handwashing, btw, I am a lazy bastard. Cold wash, gentle cycle is as good as they get.
Thanks thanks everybody!
