nostalgia

It's interesting what senses invokes memory. When we see something, hear something, smell it, taste it, touch it. Memory is tied to the senses very strongly. I think for me, smell is the strongest sense linked to my memory. In recent times there's been a lot reminding me of Germany... mostly Axe body spray... I know that seems weird, but they had it in Germany before it was here, so smelling it on people who come into my work more and more often invokes memories of strong arosol deoderants there. Cigarette smoke is another. I hate cigarettes, but strangly enough two of my fondest memories are connected to them. The smell of the old ska-scene days, especially in the Nile Theater. The second is again in Germany... people smoke soo much there, but there's all the memories of social events and such that flood back when I take in that burning second hand tar as I walk by someone smoking. Then there's perfume... god damn. So I was looking over my stuff from Erika (girl I dated in germany) last night. Surprisingly, I wasn't all down and depressed. It actually made me happy. I enjoyed seeing the old pictures of us and reading her old letters... until I got to one from Valentines day that still smelled like her perfume... wow, that made the thoughts flood back and I almost lost it. I miss her so much... she was the best girl I've ever dated, maybe even just known. She was the best friend I've ever had too. We still keep in touch... hopefully the friendship will continue to re-blume and get better as time goes on. She's amazing, I'll always love her...

Speaking of ex's... one I really dislike was supposed to call so we could hangout and catchup, or whatever bullshit... but she hasn't called... haha, it's a great day!! :-)
