Having had encountered Zetsu earlier, Lorenzo felt oddly pleased with the way the day had gone. He still hadn't managed to find Alphonse and that Zetsu wasn't a kinsman was a disheartening fact, but that didn't make the man any less fascinating. In fact, the alchemist was sure that he had a new goal for when he got back home. His own goal, the creation of a different kind of life...although he couldn't say he was entirely fond of the house's seasonal changes. From autumn to winter in the span of a mere week, it was quite inconvenient. The mandragoras would not be killed by the cold, but he would have to uproot them soon all the same ( ... )

Alphonse's hands were cold, to be honest. They were freezing from being in the snow, and his knees felt wet and cold just the same. But he didn't care for the moment - he just wanted to stop and take a moment to enjoy himself, not really thinking about night coming soon, or the potential frost bite. He deserved just a few moments to be a kid, didn't he...? The whole thing was enough to make him think back on playing with his brother as child, and ( ... )

Lorenzo started to move past him, ignoring the cold and going towards the section where his mandragoras were planted before coming to a rather sudden halt at the word dad. That was something he hadn't been called in a long time, not even by his own two children. Ugo had cut contact long ago and Riccardo had never favored the word himself. He supposed that was part of being a rebellious child, the way he'd insisted on referring to his creator or father as old man and other things. Either way, hearing it from someone he barely knew was certainly unexpected.

He repeated the word once, obviously confused by it, before given the snow his attention. "So it is..." He mumbled distractedly. Alphonse had managed to catch him off guard and perhaps that was why he was spared the scolding that Lorenzo otherwise might have given.

Alphonse sat quietly, after a second, a little distracted from the snow, finally. Lorenzo seemed to be distracted by something, too - he had been walking (Alphonse could tell from the sound of the snow crunching) but had suddenly stopped, without warning. For a second he wondered if he'd perhaps done something wrong...and then realized that he had. Lorenzo mumbled that one word to himself, and Alphonse froze up, suddenly realizing he had said it. He hardly paid any attention to the rest of what Lorenzo mumbled, what was visible of his cheeks going a little pinker (than they already were from the cold, at least) as he pulled himself to his feet, turning in Lorenzo's rough direction, and bowing his head as a sort of aid to the words that came next. "I-I'm sorry, Mr. Lorenzo," he felt a little stupid, honestly - they did hardly know each other, and there was Alphonse - a grown boy - making a slip up like that, "I-I said something weird..."

Edward was entirely oblivious as he yanked open the doors to the Greenhouse. He had to find Al, and soon... Night was coming on and--

"Holy shit it's cold!"

He pulled his coat around his chest tighter. Where had all this snow come from? It shouldn't be so cold already... Well. Maybe it was. Back in Germany, it had been...November, right? How long had he been here? Long enough...probably past that holiday that Alfons had taught him about...Christmas.

Apparently it hadn't been that time yet in the house.

..then he saw a familiar head of sandy brown hair.

"Al? Al!"

An equally familiar sight...and his face fell.

"Oh. It's you. Didn't I see you in the morgue?"
