Like the Mother's Study in Acedia, the Wood Panel Study in Ira struck Mafuyu as something worth investigating a second time. It had a different feel to it than the other rooms in the house, as though someone had spent a fair portion of their later days locked up in here, studying or perhaps keeping records. Even the red leather armchair that sat in front of the desk was well worn, in complete contrast to the majority of the house, which in spite of in spite of it's design always looked as though it had only recently been built or was otherwise purposely left in a state of extreme disrepair.
There were the books that had been left behind as well. His search of the library and the other study had revealed that the house only provided novels of the literary fiction persuasion, but this room was stocked with indecipherable texts. It looked as though it had been written using some sort of alphabetic writing system, but there was no way of telling what language it was or if that language even existed in the world that he'd come from.
But that only made him more interested, and so he'd been sitting at the worn out old desk for some time now, a tall stack of leatherbound books pushed off to one side of the desk, while a smaller stack was set aside on the other. One of them was open in front of him, being flipped through relatively quickly, but carefully, looking at each page just long enough to determine that he couldn't make heads or tails of what was written before moving onto the next. It was a tedious, time-consuming activity, but in this house he had nothing but time; besides, if he could find anything written that was salvageable--anything at all--then that would still be one more step towards solving the mystery of this house.
