Setting: Starts in Cricket Bedroom
Time: Day 009
Summary: Waking up from a weird dream, Machi goes to find Anna
Warnings: None except for a weird dream.
It was the worst dream he'd had in a long time, worse than the nightmare he was used to--Machi woke up in a cold sweat, the sheets sticking to him, and he shut his eyes as soon as he opened them, trying to blot it out. He didn't usually remember his dreams--if he even dreamed at all--but this...
It had taken place in Borginia. He was a monster again, all rotting limbs and broad, twisted hands, and he was guilty, guilty, and now he was going to die--his arms had been twisted back, pinned to the wall in front of the firing squad and he couldn't move, bound and gagged. He could only stare into the faces--familiar, horrible gas-masked faces with no eyes, trying to say with his face what he could not say with words--pleading, begging them to see him, to see he was human, that he wasn't a monster, begging them to see he needed to live--
They neither moved nor cared, black and cold in white coats. Then he was somehow blindfolded, and there was an interminable, silent period of waiting, before the cry--Fire Freely!
And then there was pain.
Pain, all of it, everywhere, and he was on the ground, bleeding from holes, so many holes, in pain, agony on the ground and elsewhere, watching, watching himself bleed from the holes, fist sized and minuscule, but he wasn't dead... he gasped for breath, dying, trying to live, the blindfold gone again--he couldn't keep track. Then someone, the commander leaned down, looking at him, brushing the bloody hair out of his face--
Anna.
Then, gently, she placed the cool muzzle of a gun against his forehead and pulled the trigger.
... he sat up, finally, opening his eyes again, trying to remember, to feel again every emotion, every nuance of dying... had he made a mistake? Could he trust her? Could he really trust her, with all of it...? Maybe he had... made a mistake.
An indescribable, restless urge settled in, but rather than handling it like most boys, like any normal person, he got up and climbed out of bed, brushing his hair out with a hand... and went to find Anna.
