"By protecting others, you save yourselves."
If this is true, then by the same token statement, when we fail to protect others, we lose ourselves.
CTU is not an agency where failure is acceptable. If we fail, then people usually end up either injured or killed, and the people are either the American public or our own agents, again, neither of which are really acceptable. Granted, agents with CTU are considered expendable.
Sometimes I wonder why they didn't try harder to get me out of China. I mean...I understand how it worked. We conducted the raid which got the guy killed, and it's blood for blood in this world. I was obviously the most desirable target. I knew the most information. They should have known I would never speak for them.
Being an agent, police officer, and a solider before that has taught me well in many things. How to close off your mind to various forms of pain and persuasion. Being an agent has also taught me that sometimes a few must be sacrificed for the many to survive. So in that case...protecting others doesn't lead to you making it out in one piece, but perhaps in a greater sense...you save yourself.
But. China. I was a puzzle piece. They were playing the game. I was just a tactic. A ploy. They needed me to stay in prison and so I stayed. Because they knew I wouldn't crack...and they knew I couldn't escape.
Who was really the one holding me captive?
Some days I'm not too sure.
