quotable muse prompt # 50

"Heihachi: I usually run away.
Gorobei: A splendid principle."

There's no point in running.

There's no point in running because there is no point in surrender. There is no point in running because there is no point in giving up. Giving up allows them to win. Running allows them the control. Surrender is merely assured defeat that you can't fight against because you've given up.

I can't say I've never given up, because I have. Sometimes you are beaten down to the point where none of your courage or strength can pick you back up again and you're just done. I've been there, I've been that low. It's not pretty but it's honest.

Sometimes you just can't fight anymore.

And for a man who has spent his life fighting, being trained to fight, being taught to fight and told over and over again never to give up, when I actually did it was a rather unsettling experience. Something just wasn't right in those moments when I allowed myself to give up. And I'm not proud of those moments, at all. My country needed me and I wasn't strong enough.

I am a solider. I am a fighter. I am a piece of the puzzle and a part of the machine. A gear of war.
