Monday 2nd December:
Tired but cheery. Leisurely breakfast followed by longish yoga. There was a hint of sunshine so although I had a few chores I should have been doing I decided to embrace the daylight and go on an extended run. Had a real urge to pelt downhill through woodland so made my way to Barnet Gate Woods. I met a man who warned me of the Dollis Brook flooding and was reminded of Ted from the Fast Show, but my feet stayed surprisingly dry.
By the time I'd got home and had lunch I had about an hour before it was time to pick up Daisy from school so rapidly bashed through the songs for the evening's rehearsal. I have a big blister on my left forefinger from rashly "testing" the hob to see if I'd switched it on. I had. Not ideal.
Bounced off down the hill in my fetching new Santa hat. Realised as I approached her school and got suspicious looks from security that it was probably not appropriate headgear so stuffed it in my pocket.
Daisy was delightful. She made some kind of palace including a throne room and platform for a lifeguard while I prepared her favourite tea of baked potato with cheese and beans. Pleased to see her scoffing most of it enthusiastically. I'd bought some posh lazy grated cheese from M&S and I must say it was noticeably delish. Afterwards she persuaded me to get her a chocolate out of the treat box on an out-of-reach cupboard shelf. Does Mummy let you have these after your tea? I asked. She replied unconvincingly in the affirmative. The resulting sugar rush led to an excitable display of acrobatics and diving off the sofa.
Her mum returned shortly afterwards, in good spirits. I was pleased to have done a good deed then set off for rehearsal in Dalston. It had taken me an age to get there previously, but the combined factors of not being weighed down with my heavy bass guitar and also being much closer to the Thameslink meant I actually got there early.
Danny had to disappear at 9 for another rehearsal on the other side of town - he's understandably very in demand as a brilliant drummer - so we quickly rattled through the set. Or rather sets. Anne Pigalle has dropped the unexpected bombshell that rather than the half hour we'd originally expected, we'll be doing two 15 minute sets. Should be interesting.
After Danny left we did stripped down versions with Tim clapping for percussion. It was interesting being able to hear all the subtleties that I usually miss. My finger was feeling very sore by this time so I was relieved when we quit for the pub. They are a lovely bunch. It was a long journey home, though. Bed at 00:45.
