Summarizing the Experience
- What were the main highlights of your teaching experience over the past two years?
Hosting workshops, working with Austin, writing a new course.
- What significant challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
Learning to work with people in a dynamic setting. Taking things personally, and not speaking my mind. I gave it time, knew people were trying their best, and didn't expect more from them/anyone. 'Let them'.
- What new strategies or approaches did you implement in your teaching?
Inviting in guests, went well. But for the most part: lecture, then activity. Need to bring this around further in the future.
Assessing Student Learning
- How did your students perform overall in terms of understanding and applying key concepts?
It's very hard to tell, but they can actualize an idea! According to a pre-post test, they did have a high learning gain :)
- What feedback did you receive from students about your teaching methods and course structure?
So far so good.
2. Were there any noticeable trends in student engagement and participation?
I need to not just call on the first name. '
Reviewing Personal Growth and Development
- How have you grown as an educator over the past two years?
Broadened the science I teach. Made new connections and tried new labs. I think there is still room to grow. More discussions and meaningful assessment.
- What professional development opportunities did you pursue, and how did they impact your teaching?
The Science History Fellowship was top notch. Opened up a whole new and very appropriate world. Fingers crossed it will continue to. It has me rethinking who we teach (the public) and how we reach them (demos).
- In what areas do you feel you need further improvement or training?
Assessment. More opportunities for formative, and more meaningful summative. Focusing on learning objectives is good, but how do they come together?
Evaluating Course Content and Structure
- Which topics or units were the most successful, and which were less effective?
Abed and Kyna's talk and lab was next level good! Bring experts in! Less effective were...?
- How well did your course materials and resources support student learning?
They can be cleaned up and bound!!!
- What changes or adjustments would you make to the course curriculum?
Circularize the lab, workbook the lectures.
