Who: Drarry Draco and Harry.
Where: Voldie's Place, for starters.
Why: Can't have our hero locked up forever, can we?
What: The Great Escape.

Draco had slept little, especially after his conversation with Pansy, but he had slept, and he'd woken with renewed hope and even something approaching optimism. He supposed that for a future that seemed as bleak ( Read more... )

Harry stirred, woken from a disturbing dream by a light touch on his forehead. It was soothing to his scar, but he opened his eyes and flinched back as soon as he remembered where he was. He relaxed, however, when he saw Draco on the other side of the bars. "Oh," he breathed, wincing as he aggravated his new wounds. "S'you."

"Yes," Draco smiled slightly, amused despite himself at Harry's improper diction. "Is me."

He let go of the Gryffindor's forehead but stayed sitting at his side, only the bars between them. His heartbeat was stepping up the pace, he noted. Draco's body was preparing itself. Fight or flight from this point on.

"Superfluous question," he said eventually, "but how are you feeling?"

"Crappy," he admitted, his head swimming as he forced himself to sit up. "Did you feel... yesterday?"

"All of it," Draco said quickly, lowering his eyes. "In the middle of my Divination practical too. Impeccable timing my aunt has. I, um, I tried to send you some good thoughts, help you get through it. Did any of that get through?"

"Oh, shut up," he groaned, still laughing, as Draco helped him to his feet, wincing as his leg protested the movement. "That's it, I'm burning all these clothes now."

"Now for the hard part," Draco said, steadying Harry as best he could. " Do you want to climb on my back or is there some other way of going about this? I can't very well carry you on my shoulders like a sack of potatoes."

"Are you a wizard or what?" Harry breathed, looking over his shoulder at the dim outline of the castle in the distance.

"A wizard with a continuing Substantia Necto hex burdening his wand," Draco explained haughtily, not appreciating Harry's tone, or what he perceived as such. "I'll be lucky if I can get a Lumos going using it at the moment. Oh, and I probably should have told you this earlier, but the reason the spell's meant for short-term use only is that after two weeks or so it starts to drive you mad."

Harry didn't even get a chance to answer before the House-Elf cracked into existance between them.

"Harry Potter, sir!" the little creature exclaimed, unable to contain his delight. "Harry Potter is back, sir!"

"Um, yeah, hi Dobby," Harry said, more embarassed than usual by the Elf's adoration.

Dobby stared in surprise at Draco, taking a step back towards Harry. "What is Harry Potter doing with him?" he asked, sounding just as disgusted as Draco looked.

"Mind your place, elf!" Draco spat at the creature. He'd never liked Dobby. He was always getting his cocoa wrong. When Harry had managed to release the thing from Malfoy service Draco was, of course, furious like his father was, but a little pleased as well.

"You didn't answer my question, Potter," he said, turning back to Harry, who was getting that nauseating look of ingenuity on his face that Draco had always detested. "Why must I suffer this creature's presence?"

"Because, Draco," Harry said, unable to resist a touch of triumph in his voice. "House Elves can Apparate inside Hogwarts grounds. Dobby, could you take us to Dumbledore's office?"

"Of course, Harry Potter, sir!" Dobby, squeaked, looking delighted. He held out his little hand to Harry.

"Him too," Harry said, nodding at the Slytherin. "Please," he added, when Dobby looked doubtful.

Harry's idea had merit, though the Slytherin would never admit it. Draco snarled like an animal as Dobby carefully took his hand. He wanted to rip the thing's arm out of its socket.

Fawkes found Albus in the place where he usually went to sit and think, the roof of the West Tower. Few few people knew the way up there nowadays, so it was the least likely place where he'd be disturbed. Fawkes, however, always knew where to find him ( ... )

"Hi, Headmaster," Harry said, shrinking down a little in his chair as the Headmaster entered. "It's, um, good to see you."

"And you, my boy," said Albus, coming forward to place a hand gently on Harry's head, as if he were making sure he was real. "Though I must say," he added, twinkling blue eyes shifting to Draco for a moment. "This is a most... interesting development."

"Er, yeah," Harry agreed, fiddling with his hands in his lap as the old man came around to sit in his desk chair. "Malfoy helped me. And I... I promised him..."

Albus' face darkened. "We'll get you a new wand, Harry."

"I've got one," Harry said, quickly. "It's fine." We'll talk about it later, he tried to communicate to the Headmaster.
