Somehow this didn't improve my mood.
1. Who was your best friend? I'm not sure if I had one when I went to Catholic school for my first two years. Probably Tiana though, if so. I think we were just close and didn't actually call ourselves best friends, and I had other close friends whose names I sadly cannot remember. Then in second grade it was Tonia, and then Sarah briefly because she thought I was the coolest thing ever and then Tonia again when Sarah decided that she'd rather tell everybody she didn't like me when she wasn't with me so she could be more popular, then Frances in middle school and part of high school, then Kristie for the only year she was at my school, then Holly (who also became my girlfriend my senior year). Yes.
2.What sports did you play? I was pretty awkward and bad at sports. Every once in a while when I could relax I did well, but mostly I just played the sports in PE and people threw dodgeballs at me and gave me nosebleeds with basketballs (that second wasn't intentional though, to be fair).
3. How did you get to school? I think my mother drove me to St. Mary's, then I took the bus until high school and carpooled with some friends for a couple of years.
4. It's Friday night, where were you? At home being sad and lonely.
5. Were you a party animal? I didn't go to a party until I was in college, and that was just for the tutoring center where I worked. So, well, no.
6. Were you considered a flirt? I think I actually was, by some people at least.
7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? No. I played music on my own, but most of the people in band made me uncomfortable. They just weren't nice or easy to be around. They were as much a clique as the cheerleaders.
8. Were you a nerd? Oh yes. I continually tried to hide it, but that didn't work until high school when I started being considered more of a punk and then more of a goth. Neither of which fit me really, but whatever.
9. Did you get suspended/expelled? Haha, never.
10. Can you sing your school song? "Shut the hell up, acorns..."? Yes. Yes I can.
11. Who were your favorite teachers? My kindergarten teacher whose name always escapes me, Mrs. Fox in second grade, Mrs. Gunter in fourth grade, Mr. Schmele in sixth grade, and then... hmm. Mr. Repp did kick ass, and I really liked my eighth grade algebra teacher even though most people hated her. We both loved math so we kind of "got" each other. I may be forgetting someone else.
12. Where did you sit during lunch? With anyone who would let me sit with them. For some time periods I would go and sit in the library because no one would, and for a while I even hid in a bathroom stall all lunch because I had nowhere else to go. I was popular.
13.What was your school's full name? Saint Mary's Catholic School, San Martin/Gwinn Elementary School, Britton Middle School, and Live Oak High School.
14. School mascot / Historic figure? Probably Saint Mary for the first (ha), a panther, a bobcat, and, well, an acorn. With arms. And legs. And a huge threatening grin.
15. Did you go to the school disco? Is that a dance? I went to one once, the Sadie Hawkin's dance in seventh or eighth grade.
16. If you could go back and do it over, would you? No. I wouldn't change any of it because I don't believe in changing your past, and I sure as fuck don't want to go through that again.
17. What do you remember most about the period after exams? Well, I didn't have those, but my comparable thing would be finals. I was always sure I'd pass them, which I did, even when I didn't study or pay attention all year because I was too busy hating myself, so not much.
18. What was your fav. class? Anything art- or math-related.
19. If you ever skipped a class, what did you do instead? Hid at home or just went off somewhere with friends. My insomnia and depression were particularly terrible in high school, and my mother was very understanding and would just let me stay home or bring me in late and write me a note. One year I saw my record and I'd missed first period something like sixty times. And I'd never miss a chance to skip a class if someone felt like going somewhere. Other times when I was with Holly we'd just go and sit somewhere.
20. Did you have a job in sixth form? I'm not sure what my comparable year to sixth form would be. I had a job when I was in high school at some point, I worked at a florist's shop seasonally. And when I was fifteen I worked as a receptionist for a summer.
21. Where did you go most often for lunch? We weren't allowed to go anywhere for lunch. So I sat with people or without people or hid in the library or, once again, the bathroom. When I was dating Holly we would cower behind the greenhouse or the baseball diamond so that fewer people would walk past and see us and hurl horrible slurs or things like pennies or hard plastic cups at us.
22. Have you gained weight since then? Oh yes. Next question?
23. What did you do after leaving school? I went to college (in San Jose, a two or more hour bus ride each way) full-time and worked two almost full-time jobs. It was fun.
24. When did you finish school? I graduated in 1998.
25. Who was your last school disco date? The only dance I went to was with Nick.
26. Are you going to your 10 year reunion? Maybe.
27. Who was your best form tutor? I have no idea what a form tutor is or if I had anything similar.
28. Who will repost this after you? God.
school,
i hate you all,
