4:13 Dream...

Oct 28, 2008 17:18

So I just got 4:13 from the record store and it is...FANTASTIC....I mean, there really are no words other than that. The lyrics are of the typical Cure style and I'm just ridiculous happy with this album.
There are a few things I'm not pleased with, but "It's Over" is droning them out at the moment!!!!!

Thoughts?

Rock On!

i agree with you. and robert's vocals are mixed too loud and he sings too high. it's really irritating. i think the album is maybe slightly better than s/t but only slightly.

i gave up listening. every time it just sounds worse and worse. i think it's the second worst cure album, s/t obviously being the worst.

Its massively disapointing if you ask me. "undernath the stars' is fantatsic and 'its over' is okay but most of the album sounds like filler to me. And 'the hungry ghost' is the most blatant rip-off of 'vapour trail' by Ride. I'm not sure what roberts thinking these days-he seems to have lost his way bigtime.

I think it's absolutely great. I wish that it was mixed quieter but other than that it's amazing. I've been listening to it for two weeks now and the only songs I tend to skip over are the singles that I've heard over the past months. If the "dark" album is anything like 4:13 Dream, it'll be perfect.

I do wish it had keyboards but really for an upbeat Cure album, I don't think they are needed. The "dark" album should naturally have them though.

Talk of it is still being hinted at. Apparently it's pretty much been recorded. I'll believe it when I see it though.

My understanding was it was meant to be a double album (one disc of pop,one disc of dirge)but it seems he's got his eye on the casual listener angle and is prolly trying to tap into the 'emo' market *L*
Sad really.

Since someone mentioned production, I do have to say that the production could have been better, but the production on a lot of things lately has just been mixed too loud such that a lot of the subtlety is lost, and this album, while a victim of this trend, is not crippled by it - too little variation in volume throughout, yes, unlistenable, no.

That said, I was very pleased overall with the album. Especially since I was expecting to be let down, as none of the singles really grabbed me. In the context of the album, however, all of the singles fit well and sound good. This could be because of the album mix being better than the 'Mix 13', but I've yet to listen to them together.

Given the fact that in my eyes, for all of its high points, the self-titled album was a monumental failure, it has been only natural for me to compare 4:13 Dream with its predecessor. One thing that is essential for me to mention is the fact that Robert no longer seems to feel the need to sing from the very first note of all the songs. One of the reasons ( ... )

Honestly, Faith has a certain monotony that lasts most of the album that just doesn't engage me that well, despite that lyrically, it's one of the best.

I agree with this, but I usually prefer Seventeen Seconds to Faith for having more variety.
