4:13 Dream...

Oct 28, 2008 17:18

So I just got 4:13 from the record store and it is...FANTASTIC....I mean, there really are no words other than that. The lyrics are of the typical Cure style and I'm just ridiculous happy with this album.
There are a few things I'm not pleased with, but "It's Over" is droning them out at the moment!!!!!

Thoughts?

Rock On!

Since someone mentioned production, I do have to say that the production could have been better, but the production on a lot of things lately has just been mixed too loud such that a lot of the subtlety is lost, and this album, while a victim of this trend, is not crippled by it - too little variation in volume throughout, yes, unlistenable, no.

That said, I was very pleased overall with the album. Especially since I was expecting to be let down, as none of the singles really grabbed me. In the context of the album, however, all of the singles fit well and sound good. This could be because of the album mix being better than the 'Mix 13', but I've yet to listen to them together.

Given the fact that in my eyes, for all of its high points, the self-titled album was a monumental failure, it has been only natural for me to compare 4:13 Dream with its predecessor. One thing that is essential for me to mention is the fact that Robert no longer seems to feel the need to sing from the very first note of all the songs. One of the reasons ( ... )

Honestly, Faith has a certain monotony that lasts most of the album that just doesn't engage me that well, despite that lyrically, it's one of the best.

I agree with this, but I usually prefer Seventeen Seconds to Faith for having more variety.

I always felt that Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me was too overdone.

Edit the tracklist down to something more reasonable and it would be one of their best albums.

I'd say 4:13 Dream is better than The Top, Boys Don't Cry/Three Imaginary Boys, Wild Mood Swings (As a while, I still think Want is better than most other songs by The Cure), but not Faith or possibly Seventeen Seconds. I haven't listened to the self-titled in a while, so I'll have to do that and then decide if I'd put it higher.

My top three would be: Disintegration, The Head on the Door, Bloodflowers.
