Promotion

Feb 01, 2012 11:57

I am up for promotion.  This means my worthiness is about to be judged by a 6 minute speech I'm giving to a group consisting only of non-mathematicians.  Unlike many other colleges, there is a (very limited) fixed number of promotions at my school and if the committee gives one to me, there will be one less for their own departments.  Thus, this needs to be very good if I am to have any chance.

If any non-mathematicians would like to help me:

1.  Quiz me on my CV (resume.)  The committee will have a copy and be able to ask anything they want.  I have no idea what a non-mathematician would ask after seeing my CV.  If you would be willing to do this in person or over the phone, I'll electronically send a copy of my CV to you and you could grill me.
2.  Hear my 6 minute speech.  Tell me what a non-mathematician thinks.  Help me find out a way to sound great and brag about my accomplishments without intimidating the committee or coming off as arrogant.

If you hate math, even better, since many of them may very well hate math as well.  The meeting is Friday afternoon so I still have two days left.
