So I just finished reading Malcom and Jack by Ted Pelton. It's supposed to be about Jack Kerouac and Malcom X, but not really. It's one of those books that reimagines the past to conviently spit out a narrative, except most of it focuses on Jack's cohorts rather than Malcom's. Sure the racism and general attitude of America at the time is general atmosphere of the book, but most of the narrative was focused on real and well maybe two imagined dudes with Jack on the road. If Malcom is in the title you'd think equal time would be devoted to both. Also the narrator, at the begining anyhow, has an awful habit of dipping into this irritating "We" onmiscient third person voice who's clearly the writer writing about a fiction version of the real events and completely breaks with the reality he's setting up and since he only does this a few times early on and drops it in favor of first person narrations I can safely say that the first 50 pages of the book suck, but it gets better. I'm tired.
I also read Talk Radio which is probably the only Bogasian play I can stomach. I've seen the movie a bunch of times, and it's pretty good. If not overly irritating and smug. Also Bogasian has managed to turn an award winner, literate career into starring roles in Under Siege 2 and Law and Order SVU or some shit. Man. Fuck him.
