My memories of Virginia Tech are filled with unusual card games and volleyball behind East Campbell and early morning breakfasts with John and Stephanie and random excursions to the library and the leaky tunnel between Davidson and Hahn Halls and getting back in touch with the outdoors and discovering new and uplifting tunes like Stevie Wonder's "Smile Please", all of these memories characterized more than anything else by an overarching tranquility that seemed to me as central to the campus as the Drill Field itself.
I remember being told at my orientation to USC that despite appearances, every student, in a way, sees a competely different campus from everyone else and comes away with a completely different experience at the university. That doesn't make it any easier to imagine how hellish VT must have seemed to one afflicted soul, but the mere plausibility is deeply disturbing. Given how much this has been weighing on my mind this past week, I can't begin to fathom what Hoppy and Erin and Ahren and JP and Greg and Ashlin and Tom and Daniel and Diego and Abbie and Ed and Mark must be going through. It's unimaginable.
