As of this afternoon, I have been accepted into the following graduate programs in chemistry:
Penn
UC Berkeley
Virginia Tech
MIT
I am still technically waiting to hear from Columbia and Johns Hopkins, but honestly the first four there are all I really need to see.
- Penn offers a reunion with my most favorite girl! and research opportunities in areas of theoretical chemistry with which I am less familiar.
- Berkeley offers the #1 ranked Ph.D. program in Chemistry and a world expert in electronic structure theory for a research advisor.
- Virginia Tech offers undeniably interesting research into the origins of optical activity and reunion with some old friends from their REU program.
- MIT offers a high-powered team of chemical theorists for colleagues and a reunion with countless friends from home.
The schools offer approximately the same compensation, namely tuition, fees, health and a pretty sweet stipend for the year.
I will be postponing deliberation on the matter of making a decision as much as possible until I have attended each school's visit weekend (free flights!!)
My friends' thoughts on this matter, however, are more than welcome.
