I actually checked your journal yesterday, making sure I didn't miss an entry or something. Nice to see you're still alive and kicking <3
As for my songs, I finally decided on three, but like flister said above these things are hardly written in stone and might be an entirely different story tomorrow.
1) Where is my mind - The Pixies: One of my all-time favs. I'm pretty sure this song will be on this list for a very long time, if not till the end of days. I'm conflicted whether I like the original or the Placebo cover more though. The latter is actually my 'waking up' song for when I'm away. The friend I was sharing the room with during my holidays wasn't so fussed though, she complained constantly about the unnerving screaming at the beginning. I was seriously offended. But well, music taste will never be something we agree on.
2) A lack of color - Death cab for cutie: I remember loving this song upon first hearing it. It has a personal meaning to me and I usually listen to it when I want to reminisce. It was hard to choose between this one and Brothers on a hotel bed/We looked like giants. I love all this songs so much.
3) One of us is dead - The Earlies (couldn't find a proper version on youtube): This one is pretty recent and the one most likely to drop out and be replaced. I love the lyrics though, and the song is beautifully strung together, albeit not usually my cup of tea style-wise. Still, I don't often purchase albums, but I bought this one after stumbling over this song through watching 'All the boys love Mandy Lane' (I know, I know ...), which makes it pretty special.
I feel kinda bad for leaving out Band of Horses, Bright Eyes (it's the lyrics, I'm telling you) or Casiotone for the painfully alone, not to mention all the other songs I love but where I don't particularly know a lot about the band's body of work on the whole. Also, classical music. Oh man, can't I just take my ipod?
Aww thanks dude :) I'm still alive, don't worry. Not so much kicking happening lately though, I'm feeling a little deflated inspiration-wise :( Hopefully it'll come to me in time!
I really like the Pixies so you get two thumbs up from me for this choice (Y)(Y) :D
Oh, DCFC have some gorgeous songs. Another good choice <3
I haven't actually heard that song, but I'll be sure to track it down and give it a listen!
I know, right? I wish taking a complete and full ipod was an option but this is an evil game, so, my apologies :P
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts as always!
I could upload it for you if you want, would save you a lot of time.
And don't tell me about lack of inspiration, only mine has been gone for so long that you couldn't even know if you wanted to, since it started way before skins. I think I win this pity party, no? I'm looking forward to whatever you're theoretically working on atm though (especially if its NE, as you probably know by now :P).
Btw, I forgot to mention that I really like this Counting Crows song, never heard that one before. The video for Can't go back momentarily confused me, I was like "Disfigured hands?! WTF?".
If you don't mind I'd really appreciate it :) Thank you!
LOLL, pity party wars. I think this could become a weekly topic where we all gather together to see who's had the worst week. Y/Y? ;)
Thank you for the early vote of confidence :) (and yes it's an AU E/N ;))
I'm glad you like it :) I find it's one of their highly underrated songs and yet it's been my favourite of theirs for years. Their earlier albums are so much better than their newer ones.
LOLL! Disfigured hands. Yeah, the video is kind of sucky. It's like a creepier (if possible) version of the Muppets!
I'm all for weekly pity parties, and I'm also all for cute puppy pictures to cheer us up afterwards. Or you know, Emily Fitch, because puppies and Emily Fitch are pretty much interchangeable.
AU + NE sounds heavenly, so I really hope you find your inspiration soon. Judging by all the encouragement/though love you've been getting, I'm sure it'll be back in no time.
Did Placebo do a cover of Where is my Mind?! *goes to try and find*
And, dude - I just couldn't put a Death Cab song on because they change daily but, actually, your choice is fucking spot on. It's a similar feeling for me to the Elliott Smith song. Makes my chest feel all tight, you know? I could talk about my love for DCFC for hours but I won't bore you with it here :)
lol it's a great cover, you should definitely look for it (actually, the Nada Surf one is pretty good too, it's not as rock-y as the other two and focuses more on the vocals).
Death Cab for Cutie is love. I still like to pretend they never did the Twilight gig, but whatever. I could rave about them for hours on end too, so I understand where you're coming from.
And dude, I didn't know Elliott Smith frigging died in 2003. I have a few of his songs and always liked them, and now you go and post a link which basically consists of comments telling me he's been dead for a long time. Youtube, disillusioning the innocent in 2010.
Fuck me, I didn't know that either. That fucking sucks. And now it's all a little bit sadder :(
My band considered a cover of Where is my Mind but all four of us can never agree. I think it would have been fun though! My bassist wants to do a DCFC song which makes me ♥ him more.
I listened to the Placebo one, will try to find Nada Surf now!
You're in a band? Awesome! What instrument do you play?
And sorry for bringing it up, I seriously thought you knew :( It's very sad indeed, too many of today's greatest songwriters/singers are suffering from severe depression. Or, well, too many people in general.
Oh, that's okay! I'm terrible at researching stuff so regularly miss things like that.
And, yes! We have a few recordings, which I'm sure Jess won't mind me plugging, here Pocket Valleys. They're only rough ones but you get an idea of what we're like :)
And I just do singing. Luckily for everyone I don't force my terrible guitar 'skills' on them ;)
I quite like your voice, and the songs are definitely intriguing. And now I certainly think you should do a "Where is my mind " cover, you surely got the skills to make an interesting song out of it.
I also like your own songs, especially "Better than before" (oh look! I'm already myspace-stalking you). Not to mention if these are the 'terrible' guitar skills you were talking about, I have to strongly disagree, I find them pretty good.
LOL, cheers dude. They're not a patch on our guitarist though. I save them for special occasions, ie parties where someone has a guitar and I'm like 'Ooooh let me play! *steals*' ;)
