Also, an ontd_political member saw that NOM had yet to buy the domain 2M4M, and set about creating his own pro-marriage equality site under that name. 2M4M.org. Safe for work. This is why ontd_p is my favorite.
NOM (National Organization for Marriage) also committed a pretty big piece of legal fail by claiming copyright over on Youtube for a segment of the Rachel Maddow show that discussed and featured images of their ads. And YT is equally fail for pulling the video, even though admittedly I'm not sure what their policy on pulling and reviewing DMCA claims is.
Or at least, I think it's legal fail, if my memory of Copyright and Media Law is serving me right. While whomever owns MSNBC could have pulled the segment for copyright, NOM's claim--which I assume is over the appearance of their ad in the segment--wouldn't hold much water as it doesn't hold any rights over the show, and the Rachel Maddow Show is obviously protected under fair use for its use of the ad. I don't know, correct me if I am wrong. I just find the whole thing LOLarious, when I'm not mad over the fact that this organization is getting publicity out of its ridic shenanigans.
Also, HAI. I see many of you are moving to Dreamwidth. I will be too! (and crossposting here, no worries I'm not leaving LJ). I've been following the progress along for months now, and I am v. excited about the site. In fact, soon (likely when I need to procrastinate) I will be making my own WHEE post about Dreamwidth. But for those of you who don't have a clue what I'm talking about, here's a little primer post.
But I won't be over there until after finals in mid-May, because I know that a shiny new site is going to eat up aaaaall my time.
