김치전 (Kimchi Pancakes)
theclockiswrong Translation of Ryeowook's tweet 16072010
❝I want to take a trip.. I wish to go alone but probably will regret cause I have so many people to miss~ So I’ll calm myself with eating Kimchi pancakes instead of traveling~~*❞
It was a Saturday morning, barely a quarter before six o'clock; the skies outside still a dull greyish light blue. Ryeowook was wrapped up comfortably in his bed and underneath his soft comforter, dreaming about him travelling to many wonderful places, taking photographs and eating. It was all but a dream, but the smile on his lips made everything seem so real.
"Ryeowook-ah, wake up," he could hear a husky voice whisper into his ear softly, the warm breath tickling his ear. He felt hands on his shoulder, shaking him awake gently and the calm soothing voice that cajoled him from his deep slumber. He slipped awake from his beautiful dream, sighing sadly when the images in his mind disappeared into nothingness. He pried his heavy eyes open by a slight millimeter and looked at the figure who loomed over him, almost menacingly.
"Hyun?" He called out groggily, his usual sweet sounding voice was deep and hoarse. He heard the younger man chuckle lowly, his evil laughter. He could see the little shine from where Kyuhyun's eyes were and he could make out the gentle smile upon those thin lips. It was dark, a little bit of light from outside filtering through the white curtains of his shared bedroom with Yesung. He rolled over to his side, moaning a little as he moved his stiffened limbs and looked at Kyuhyun.
"Ryeowook-ah," Kyuhyun called out again, reaching out to stroke Ryeowook's messed up brown hair gently. "Let's go out for a short trip right now. Just the two of us."
"Are you crazy, Kyu? We have to record for Music Core today," Ryeowook muttered in aghast, the volume of his voice is like normal now and when he heard Yesung moan and shift in the bed across his a few feet away, he clamped his hands over his mouth. Kyuhyun laughed deeply again, fingers playing with the older man's brown locks.
"We're only going to someplace close. We'll be back hours before it, I promise," Kyuhyun murmured reassuringly, patting Ryeowook's head lightly, he had his best smile on -- the one he knew the smaller man could never deny (because Kyuhyun was the one who could deny Ryeowook many things, not the other way round). He grinned broadly when Ryeowook sighed, a sign that he had given up. Ryeowook shot a serious no-nonsense look at Kyuhyun.
"Don't get us into trouble yah!" He hissed, but the pout he had on his lips made his threat seem less venomous if not threatening at all. Kyuhyun nodded excitedly, his face was beginning to hurt from the strain in his cheeks because he was smiling like a mad man that moment.
The sun had barely rose when they both slipped out of the apartment at least 15 minutes later after Kyuhyun had woke Ryeowook (while Ryeowook showered, Kyuhyun was being a considerate dongsaeng enough to pick out his clothes for him). As silently as they could, they keyed in the code to the door and unlocked it carefully not to wake up the other three members who shared the apartment.
The moment they made it to the elevators safely and the silvers doors slid shut, Kyuhyun started to laugh hard, his face scrunched up together as he clenched a hand over his aching side. Ryeowook reached over to press the button for the ground floor.
"I can't believe you're actually agreeing to do this with me," Kyuhyun said, still trying to stifle his laughter, still so throughly amused by the idea that the two magnaes of Super Junior would do something so mischievous and risky like that. The adrenaline rush in his blood made his heart beat faster and faster. He had not done something so fun in a while. Ryeowook didn't seem equally happy, though.
"I swear, if we get caught--" A yawn broke out in the middle of his threat, his mouth gaping and unattractively wide like a hippopotamus and he covered his mouth in a hurry, his cheeks glowing a deep shade of pink from the embarrassment, but it was truly the cutest thing Kyuhyun had ever seen. The elevator hit ground floor and when the doors opened, the echoes of Kyuhyun's hysteric laughter rang a little too loudly through the lobby which earned him a pretty nasty glare from Ryeowook.
They stuck their heads out a little from the door first, checking to make sure the coast was clear before they stepped out. Fortunately, the lobby was empty like a ghost town and the security guards were strategically missing. They exchanged impish glances with each other before making their way to the main entrance quickly, Ryeowook's arm linked around Kyuhyun's tightly as he trudged closely behind the mastermind of the plan.
Another set of password secured doors were unlocked and the minute they stepped outside the building, they both released a relieved sigh in unison. Their faces lit up with the knowledge of accomplishment and Kyuhyun flashed Ryeowook a knowing look. Ryeowook started to laugh sweetly; he was beginning to understand and enjoy the thrill of sneaking out like a ninja in the break of dawn.
"You're right. This is kind of fun," Ryeowook giggled softly, arm still linked around Kyuhyun's. He felt a warm hand on his cheek and when he looked up to give his dongsaeng a quizzical look, he gasped when Kyuhyun leaned in to kiss his forehead. Ryeowook couldn't react fast enough. By the time his brain gave out the order to shove the taller man away, Kyuhyun pulled away on his own accord.
"I told you so," Kyuhyun muttered softly with a handsome smile, a knowing look in his dark eyes and Ryeowook felt his cheeks burn again. He turned around and scanned their surroundings, hoping that no one had seen them and to his relieve, they were the only ones on the empty street that time. He turned back at his dongsaeng, flustered.
"Don't do that again, Hyun! People might see us!" Ryeowook snapped, but he was far from feeling angry. Kyuhyun didn't reply, he just smiled in return and then suddenly, he grabbed the smaller man's wrist again. Ryeowook looked up at him with wide eyes, wondering what other troublesome thing the younger man was about to do again when Kyuhyun looked down and smiled at him, excitement glowing like fire in those lively orbs.
"The bus is here! Let's take the bus!" He said eagerly and indeed there was one lonely bus driving down the quiet street. Kyuhyun lifted his hand and waved at the bus, stepping down from the concrete pavement and pulling the older man along with him. The blue and white coloured bus stopped in front of them and Kyuhyun wasted no time to scramble up the stairs when the door parted for them, tugging Ryeowook behind him.
The bus was quite empty, a few scattered passengers on board, they were either asleep or minding their own business. Kyuhyun smiled at the sight and he pulled the man behind him to take a seat at the row of seats near the end of the bus. Ryeowook never once voiced himself out when Kyuhyun led him to his seat by the window and then scooting onto the seat beside him, scooting closely so that their shoulders touched and Kyuhyun entwined his fingers with the others' tightly, smiling to himself proudly as he hit their connected hands underneath his jacket.
"Where are we going?" Ryeowook asked finally after a short five minutes have passed. Kyuhyun glanced over at him with a smile and let his other hand drift towards the older man's face, using his fingers, he pushed Ryeowook's thick fringe from over his beautiful brown eyes and tucked the stray strands behind his ear.
"I don't know," Kyuhyun replied casually and he felt Ryeowook's fingers tense around his. The pretty eyes widening comically and he could practically feel like rush of blood through Ryeowook's veins.
"You don't know?" Ryeowook gasped as he eyed his dongsaeng with surprise. "This bus might be heading to Busan for all we know! We need to get off right now--" Kyuhyun interrupted the smaller man's panic attack with a muffled laughter, he was biting down onto his lower lip, the gaze in those eyes were laced with jest. He had always enjoyed the small pleasures of teasing his hyung's tendency towards paranoia.
"Relax, Ryeowook-ah. I'm joking. You're always so tense, do you know that? I'm taking you out to eat kimchi pancakes," Kyuhyun explained, his hand covering over Ryeowook's, rubbing his palms over Ryeowook's knuckles softly.
"Isn't it a bit too early for kimchi pancakes?" Ryeowook queried, pouting adorably and looking way from Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun had no words to rebutt his hyung. He had not remember to take that tiny information into consideration when he was in the process of planning their little getaway. It was definitely too early to have kimchi pancakes. He peered at his watch. Ah, it was half past six. He frowned at the minor setback and Ryeowook could see Kyuhyun's reflection on the window. Somehow, he could tell that the younger man had planned this meticulously. He didn't want to be a killjoy.
"Yah, I'm joking, too! I want to eat kimchi pancakes in the morning," Ryeowook said quickly, turning back to hit Kyuhyun playfully on his shoulder. He managed his brightest and sweetest smile (the one Kyuhyun loved the most) and Kyuhyun smiled back warmly. What a terrible liar. Ryeowook had always been too kind, Kyuhyun thought, but that was why he loved the older man so much.
The ride to the small shop that sold kimchi pancakes took about twenty minutes, and it was no surprise at all that they were the only two customers that morning. The occupied the seats at the back of the shop, hidden from the outside world and it lowered the risk of being spotted by their fans and that could foil Kyuhyun's plans completely.
It was a nice change to eat breakfast in a quiet shop, just the both of them. No other members chattering away endlessly and no manager-hyung to supervise them, no cameras. No pretending, just the two of them having a simple meal together -- not as members of Super junior, but just as plain Kim Ryeowook and Cho Kyuhyun.
"Kyuhyun-ah, why are we doing this?" Ryeowook asked as he picked up a small piece of the korean style pancake and stuffed it into his mouth. Kyuhyun was seated opposite of him, drinking some of his warm cup of tea before setting it down on the table. He leaned over the table and Ryeowook watched him with curious eyes.
"Remember you said something about wanting to travel alone? But you said that you would miss a lot of people," Kyuhyun said and Ryeowook was nodding as he listened, the ends of his chopstick still inside his mouth.
"Would the person you miss the most be me, Ryeowook-ah?" Kyuhyun questioned with cheeky knowing look on his face which made Ryeowook break their eye contact because it was true. He would miss the evil magnae the most if he went far away. Ryeowook didn't answer as he reached out his chopstick to take another piece of the pancake when Kyuhyun suddenly grabbed his other hand resting on the table, and he dropped the pancake back onto the plate.
"Kyuhyun!" Ryeowook called out, his voice was high and panicky. He tried to pull his hand away but Kyuhyun's grasped his hand tightly, not letting go. He wanted to look around but Kyuhyun tugged at his hand, directing his eyes back at him.
"It's alright. No one is looking," Kyuhyun whispered softly with a soft smile and Ryeowook bit his lower lip as he stopped trying to wrench his hand away. He allowed Kyuhyun to wrap his warm hand around his, letting himself enjoy the rare feeling of Kyuhyun holding him lovingly in public. He told his mind and heart to trust Kyuhyun; the younger man would not do anything silly to get them into trouble or on the front cover of gossip magazines.
"I want you to know that I'm against your plans! I don't want you to go travel alone because I'm going to miss you too much, too. You said that kimchi pancakes will help you forget about travelling, so I'm treating you to kimchi pancakes now so that you won't think of travelling and then leaving me. Does that make sense to you?" Kyuhyun had started rambling so quickly that once he finished, Ryeowook had to take awhile to replay his words again in his head to understand them properly.
"No, not really," Ryeowook blurted out quite honestly and the earnest smile on Kyuhyun's face fell a little. "But Kyuhyun-ah," Ryeowook continued, "I don't think my plan of travelling alone will work out because I might die in the middle of it, missing and thinking of you too much." He was smiling broadly in his own special way that melted Kyuhyun's heart.
"Really?" Kyuhyun asked, his face lighting up again. "Good," he sighed to himself, content with the answer the smaller man had given him. His heart felt at ease as he sat back and allowed Ryeowook to finish eating the remaining half of the pancake.
"Let's take a picture together. I want to remember today as the day you talked me into doing the most stupid thing I've ever done," Ryeowook laughed and Kyuhyun was grumbling about something about him being completely willing. Ryeowook pulled out his phone from his bag and turned on the camera feature. He tugged Kyuhyun close beside him and faced the phone at them, slightly above their heads.
"Hana, dul, set--" the camera clicked sharply in the quiet bus, but none of the three passengers inside bothered with the two energetic young men seated at the back of the bus.
"Yah, Cho Kyuhyun! Why aren't you looking at the camera? I look so cute and you ruined the whole picture with your face like that!" Ryeowook snapped jokingly as he looked at the picture he had just taken. He was smiling so adorably while Kyuhyun beside him was frowning, his eyebrows knotted together, staring at the side of Ryeowook's face. When he turned around to look at Kyuhyun to show him the silly photo, his heart almost collapsed when Kyuhyun slanted his lips over his own. For a short moment, he couldn't breathe.
The kiss was short, less than 2 seconds but when Kyuhyun pulled away, Ryeowook felt like all the air inside his lungs were knocked out. He couldn't believe that Kyuhyun had done the dumbest thing ever and just kissed him in a public area where anyone could see, and on his lips nonetheless! He touched his burning lips with his fingers and he couldn't even come up with a response. He felt his whole body heat up as he looked at the younger man with an expression on his face beyond disbelief.
"No one saw that," Kyuhyun smirked slyly as he licked his lower lip seductively at the other man before winking playfully before looking away. "Oh, we're back at the dorm. Come on, let's go!" Kyuhyun announced as he stood up from his seat and grasped for Ryeowook's thin wrist, lying on his lap, jerking the smaller man up to his feet and leading him out of the bus and back to their home.
"Kyuhyun-ah, wake up! We have to leave for the studio in half an hour!" Leeteuk was whining annoyingly, trying all his techniques to wake the magnae up from the bed but Kyuhyun never stirred. "Kyuhyun-ah!!!"
Outside, Ryeowook was watching the other members eat the breakfast he had prepared. His stomach was still full from the pancakes that morning. He poured himself a tall glass of orange juice and joined the rest at the table. Eunhyuk was munching away noisily.
No one had realized that the magnaes had left for four hours in the morning before sneaking back into the apartment and slipping back into bed like nothing had happened. A smirk of accomplishment broke from his lips.
"I'm very sure Kyu slept early last night, but he seems so exhausted even right now. It's all that Starcraft messing up with his body clock and his sleeping habits, I'm telling you," Sungmin said as he waved his fork in front of his face, a serious look on his face and Ryeowook could only nod in agreement as he took another sip from his cup.
"Yah, hyung!!!" Kyuhyun's angry shout rang loud and clear throughout the apartment. It seemed that Leeteuk had decided to take the final and most effective technique to wake the magnae -- the water screen (a special technique where he spurts water from his mouth over a sleeping person). Laughter erupted from the kitchen and Ryeowook decided that Kyuhyun deserved it for being such a troublesome magnae that day.
He touched his lips softly and smiled to himself. It was going to be a good day.
