Happy Fourth the Second

Jul 04, 2010 14:21

Yesterday we celebrated the 4th early because my little cousin's birthday is actually today, but he wanted his party on Saturday.  Fine.  So we had some barbeque over at my aunt's house and lit some fireworks (and almost burned the neighborhood down, but that's neither here nor there).

Today, it's my turn to host the 4th.

I mean, every year I do what's called Meat Fest.  This year is Meat Fest 2010.  My little brother (he's 21 years, 11 months, and 22 days old, but he's always my little brother), and I have been cooking all. Frickin.  Morning.  On any other given year I wouldn't've had to start cooking at 9am, but since my aunt, cousins, and all of those children are coming over (it's usually just me, mom, brother, and we save a plate for my aunt), so I had to overcompensate for whatever they might like.  My brother handled the ribs (and I sampled them and they are the. FUCKING. BOMB.  I knew I taught him well.)  I pretty much took care of everything else that got cooked inside the house.  I mean, I seasoned and prepared the shrimp-kabobs and the grilled corn, but I also made bacon-wrapped scallops, steamed mussels (what?  I'm a Florida girl, I need seafood on the 4th), macaroni and cheese (I'm also a black Florida girl), plus for dessert I made two strawberry tarts, and my brother is handling the burgers and hotdogs (my mom made the salad, lol).  And we're STILL not done cooking.  Fortunately the only things left over to cook are the kabobs, hotdogs, and we have to pull the burgers and corn off the grill.  I need a nap and I'm really hungry.  I've pretty much only had the samples of what's already done cooking and I'm ready to dig all the way in.

Hope you guys are enjoying your holiday.  I'm ready to eat and set more things on fire.
