Like most 9 year olds, trish’s latest craze is all about magic. Not your whatever mindfreak crazy guy, just plain ol’ magic tricks. I too (when I was cute and cuddly), had my own little magic trick set, filled with dice that could disappear, balls that could multiply, cards that I could guess right without even looking, ropes that would untie on their own, and my favourite, the one where I could poke a hole thru plastic without even making a scratch. I would perform all these tricks to whoever hadn’t seen them before, and in my humble opinion, my magic show was pretty good. Only thing was that I wasn’t very professional. Because I was so thrilled that I knew MAGIC, I would laugh uncontrollably while doing the tricks. Especially when I was ‘tricking’ so called adults, or grown ups, my little show was always interrupted with bouts of giggles that confused my audience on what was ticking me so much. There was a certain sense of empowerment that I held, knowing all the secrets to the tricks.
Trish’s speciality magic trick is a card trick that goes like this. First, she will ask you to pick any card from the deck. After looking at the card, put the card anywhere back into the deck without letting her see it. Finally, yes, the prestige, she shuffles the card and will ‘magically’ pick out the card that you first chose. Well, it’s supposed to go this way, but sometimes it doesn’t. Whenever the card she picks isn’t the card I chose, I usually tell her it isn’t and that the trick didn’t work. But sometimes, I’ll do a little magic of my own and the first card she picks will always be the right card.
I do so because I know the truth hurts, especially when you know it.
