Bad or Mad?

33 deaths in Virginia is of course enough of a reason for every other loon to tell us what is wrong.

First up, Jack Thompson with hours had announced on Fox that violent video games were the answer. Jack Thompson hates video games and has gone to frivolous lengths to get them banned. Impressive foresight at the point nothing much was known.

Next, the Centre of Human Rights (or some such name) aka The Scientologists asked for a full inquiry into the gunman's psychiatric history. Not for any problems, but to assess if evil psychiarty and their drugs had caused this tragedy. Which they are sure it had.

The Westborough Baptist Chruch, the barking edge of religious fundamentalism in North America. God made it happen to punish America. Too many 'fags' and the killings in the Holy Land made God act through Cho Seung-Hui.

Off course, one end of the Gun-Control debate claims it's the availability of cheap guns. The other, no doubt will claim that a gun in the hands of the students would have made the number of deaths less by being able to control the situation.

The main press all want answers, and want to explain it in simple terms. They also fill up the empty minutes of nothing happening (because in the aftermath, there is no news as no-one can be sure, and telling people uncertainties makes it worse). More over, they demand answers from every local college and university as to how safe it is. 'Parents want to know' they simper.

Thing is, no-one wants to accept that sometimes there are no reasons more than the human race's ability to throw up misfits and sociopaths. No amount of security will stop someone going postal. No amount of trying to read into every little thing a person does will mean we can identify those who may go a spree killing.

It shocks us, because we want to think there's a reason and something we could do about it. But sometimes, there is nothing to do but acknowledge the passing of other people's loved ones, show respect and let those who need to grieve, grieve.
