Twenty seven hours is too long to travel. I'm taking Thursday and Friday off to recover. It probably doesn't look good, and I don't think a lot of people understand what 27 hours of travel plus 14 hours of jet lag can do to a body and a mind. I had arranged my travel plans so I would get back on a Friday night and have a three day weekend to recover (Monday being a national holiday). But when we got to the airport on Thursday morning, our flight was delayed so long we would have missed our connection. When we went to the counter to reschedule, he couldn't find us a flight until Tuesday. Fortunately this happened in Louisville so I was able to call my mom and overstay my welcome at my parents. It is probably a good thing they hadn't seen us in so long, or they would have been tired of us. As it is I started to feel like my life in Japan was a dream and Michael and I were living with my parents on an air mattress in my old room. On the way to the US our flight from Chicago was canceled so we had to stay the night there, but my parents had already gone to the airport to pick us up. The made five trips to the airport for us in a three week period.
We've been running our heater extra hard since we got back, but the apartment still feels cold. Unfortunately the bathroom is in the nonheated part of the apartment, so that will always be cold, and the water that comes from the sink is even colder. I'm looking forward to spring.
