I agree. What I thought we would be getting was a compelling story about tensions between benders and nonbenders and the political and social implications therein. What we got was a story about how awful it is for people with special powers to lose their special powers. A lot of things happened, but then also nothing really happened at all. There was some conflict that was resolved too quickly for the audience to really care, there were characters that felt one-dimensional, there were "magic" elements of the world that were explained away with "because that's how it works!" or not explained at all, there were romantic relationship dynamics that were confusing at best. And in the end, the hero learns nothing and is rewarded with the love interest of her choice after having her special powers magically restored.
*Bows* I think I was lucky, I didn't have high expectations so I couldn't be too disappointed. After the conclusion of ATLA, I knew that I was curious about LOK, but I refused to invest in it emotionally this time around. I will admit that some small part of me was hoping that they would wow me, but even with this stance I just ended up feeling underwhelmed and confused.
I'm so glad you decided to make a post on here. I was tempted to yesterday, but I thought, "Nah, forget it. Maybe if no one posts anything by tomorrow."
Overall, I thought the finale was OK, but it could have been so much better, and I definitely wasn't as excited about it as a lot of people. I mean, I was alright with Korra getting her bending back at the end at first, but the whole process really is another deus ex machina, which was one of my major gripes about the A:TLA finale. And it really was rushed, like Mike and Bryan just realized they only had twelve episodes and needed to cram as much stuff as possible. As I've said in other places, they had about two years to work out their story; theoretically, there was no reason why they couldn't tell a well-paced, cohesive story in that amount of time

Seriously, I was very disappointed. Maybe because my expectations were too high.
