Cake 4 - Chocolate Orange Creme Cake...
Yay! I made my own icing today! Using the Wilton 1 recipe gave me the opportunity to practice smoothing out my frosting. I'm pretty happy with the frosting, it's coloring and the overall cake design. It's simple but looks like I had some sort of a clue making it. I really like how the orange zest speckles the icing too.
The frosting texture is a little grainy and it's uber sweet with a light orange flavor from a combination of extract and zest. Geordon thought that it was too mild, but I think that it's nice, I didn't want it to over power the chocolate cake. I'm not fond of the Wilton Class frosting. It's okay and serves it's purpose well, but it's purpose is to hold up to decorating the best, not to taste the best. I'll continue using it for now, but when I turn towards improving my flavors, I think that I'll be testing out some different recipes.
