I got a cake decorating book for Mother's Day from Erik & Mrs. Cake! Yay! It's so cool and I can't wait to try some of the techniques in it.
We took Tori's Birthday Cake to the Shire moot last night and I think it went over well. I didn't have to bring any left overs home. I was really nervous, especially since Peter had a cheesecake there. His cheesecakes are the bomb-diggity. One of the women was surprised that I had made the cake, she said that she thought it was store bought. I took it as a compliment, but I'm not sure if I think it is or not. Do I want my cakes to be at least as pretty as something that I could buy? Yes, I do. Do I want them to taste like something I could buy? No, I don't think I do. Though I suppose that it depends on where one buys their cakes. Hrmmm... I just don't know. I think would like my cakes to be better than most of the cakes that I have bought in the past.
There's so much more to cake than I ever knew. It's a little overwhelming and I'm struggling to take it one step at a time.
Cake things I think I might like to do eventually in no particular order:
- Finish Wilton 1
- Take Wilton 2
- Take Wilton 3
- Take Wilton Gum Paste & Fondant
- Take Wilton Workshop w/ Collette Peters
- County Fair Entry
- Come up with a "standard" great tasting selection of cake/frosting combinations
- Pastry Course at a local college or cooking school
