“Mr. Edgeworth!” Maya called, bursting into his regal office. The bellboy had warned her not to disturb his teatime, but she figured it would be okay to interrupt. Nick and she had visited him before during such a time, after all.
She did not spot him and once, and turned around, only to discover him by the windowsill, sipping his afternoon tea and giving her a puzzled look.
“Maya Faye?” Edgeworth inquired.
“Yes!” She said, nodding and clapping her hands.
“What brings you here today? If it concerns Wright-”
“Oh, no, it’s not about a case at all. I just wanted to congratulate you.”
He threw another confused glance in her direction.
“Pardon me?”
Maya continued, as if she had not heard. “You know, it was almost stifling. I couldn’t even mention your name in front of Nick before he got angry! But now you’re back, and things will be all good.”
Edgeworth finally placed his teacup down on his desk and turned around to fully face her. “In terms of what goes on in the court?”
He had expected common courtesy, but not of such sincere sort. So he let his eyes grow a little wider when she answered (instead of admitting that she came out of politeness):
“That’s exactly what I look forward to the most,” said Maya, her smile almost like a child’s, “is seeing you and Nick in court again and fighting each other’s claims.”
Edgeworth, after a short moment of silence, replied, “I see.”
“I trust to see you at court soon!” Her voice rang brightly.
“Do you?” Edgeworth could not help but ask, his eyes closed, his mouth almost curving into a small, tiny, unnoticeable grin.
She stopped by the door, her hands by her back and her back to the prosecutor. “Sure, Mr. Edgeworth.” Nick trusts you. So why shouldn’t I?
