Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring: (Spoiler Warning)

I watched this movie by myself. It was a good thing that I watched it by myself, because then I wasn't embarrassed as I went through so many emotions. It made me cry several times and deeply moved me. Even though there are some spoilers I'm going to write about, the movie is still worth the journey after you read this.

It is about a monk living on a lake temple who is teaching a young boy. In the Spring, the boy tortures and laughs as he ties a rock to a fish, frog, and snake. The Old Monk watches the boy torment the animals and while the boy sleeps ties a rock to his back. He tells the boy, "Go and find all the animals and release them from the stones. Then I will release you too. But if any of the animals, the fish, the frog or the snake is dead, you will carry the stone in your heart
for the rest of your life."

Then the movie comes back to the boy in Summer of his teenage years. A mother and her spiritually-ill daughter come to the temple. The mother leaves her daughter there until she is healed spiritually. The daughter and the young monk have physical relations, because he is curious. At some point, she reveals to the young monk that she is healed, because of him. When the old monk learns of this, he sends her away, and the young monk gets angry. He leaves to follow her. The old monk warns him, "Lust awakens the desire to possess and that awakens the intent to murder." The young monk leaves and returns several years later during his 30s.

He returns during the Fall for spiritual enlightenment. He has killed in wife in jealousy as the monk warned. The monk tells him to "Carve out all of these characters with the knife and while you cut out each one, drive out the anger from your heart." At one point, the man write the word "Shut" on paper and puts the paper over his eyes, mouth, and nose, and cries. You can see the paper over his eyes becoming wet with tears. I cried too.

Anyways, that's all I care to write about it right now. The movie left me feeling very sad, yet peaceful. Things heal. Things return. I felt like letting go of any negative feelings I have and letting things be.
