For those that don't know, I'm a bit of a book whore. lol. I've always loved reading and writing (They go hand in hand in my opinion, you can't truly appreciate one without the other, though that's also part of my teaching philosophy). My kindle has only been making this habit worse. I keep losing myself in so many books lately.
My Kindle is like, perhaps one of the best christmas presents I've ever received. I love being able to read sample chapters, to look up practically anythings, and see what kinds of free books I can get. Any subject I want, all in one handy dandy easy to carry 'book'. So happy. I do miss the look and holding a book and turning the crisp pages of a new book, but to be honest, the fact I can get any book at my finger tips almost outweighs that a bit. And if I start missing that terribly, I can go wander around a bookstore and be in heaven for a bit.
I'm something of a mythology, folklore, demonology, blah blah blah nut. I love stories, I guess. The most wonderful thing I have right now is that most every fairytale/folktale has long ago lost its copyright. So I've been downloading books upon books of folklore and fairytales, from Eskimo to Celtic to Indian to everything pretty much. All free. All at my finger tips. It's so wonderful.
And Recipes. They have free Recipes on things, can get cook books on my little itty bitty kindle. XD There's this one group that put out 3 free books of 25 chocolate chip cookie recipes, 25 mac n'cheese recipes, and 25 meatloaf recipes. Most all of them are simple and delicious sounding so I will have to try. It then made me look at their other cookbooks which I now want.
They also have games for the kindle. So when bored and not in the mood to read, I play Slingo. XD And a lot of them are free too.
I finished The Lost Hero (Loved it, can't wait for the next one in October). I also recently downloaded my Life in Paris by Julia Child. (I keep watching Julie and Julia, comfort movie while sick! lol) and so I was curious. I'm enjoying it immensely. And at the same time, reading it, makes me feel not so bad about turning 30 this year, which has been bugging me a bit. Oddly enough, I used to love urban arcana (Vampires, Werewolves, etc) and for some reason, I just haven't been able to read or get into anything new in that genre. I still love old favorites like Patricia Briggs and Charlaine Harris, but anything new...I've kinda been bored with. I think I blame twilight.
Asuka's been lying beside me a lot while reading. I think she misses Jack, and knows I do too. He was usually the cat that would curl up at my side while I wrote on the computer or read a book, content to vampire kitty while I did so (He had this habit of sleeping upside down, and had these long fangs that would stick out making him look like an upside down vampire lol). Asuka's been doing that with me as of late. Not quite as lazy as Jack, and she doesn't have the attention span to simply lie around for long periods of time. But, she's getting more cuddly and less likely to try and eat my book or turn the power off the computer (Habits she liked to do when she wasn't being acknowledged to her satisfaction). She tends to like me lying on the bed reading, so she can curl up on a blanket, snore, and nap on her side. She kinda reminds me of a log. (Though she has been losing weight now that we can monitor her a bit better, though she's not quite happy about it).
I have been thinking. I may try to do a BBQ for my birthday this year, like the ones we used to have at college. Those were always fun times, not nessc. cause it was my birthday, but that everyone was there, good food, lots of fun.
Anyway I think I've rambled enough. I kind of felt like journaling a bit today. Hope all is well with everyone.
