Okay, I'm not gonna get too deep into Maria, right? We've gone to a couple tapings, and it was fun, but my emotional investment in the show is surprisngly minimal

Well, that's reality TV for you -- it is scripted, to a certain degree. I am sure, in this case, that ALW would not trust public opinion to give him someone he would want to work with or someone who truly had the best singing skills. The judges' comments must, therefore, be calculated to sway audience opinion roughly in the same direction as a real casting director would go.
I voted for Janna because I think she moves confidently, has stage presence, isn't as self-conscious as the rest of them, and sings strongly in a wide vocal range to boot. Donna is probably my second favourite for her voice alone. I wouldn't vote based on some random comments about diva-ish behaviour.
Hmmm, interesting to hear all of this. Since Allison was voted off I've stopped watching cause I only watched for her. I had never planned to watch in the beginning because I hate this style of television.
As indefatigable42 says, there is no way that the choice of who will play Maria will actually be put up to a vote by the nation, so to my mind there is next to no reason to watch the show, or even produce the show. But I guess it's the style of television that some people enjoy. So to engage the audience they need to keep the drama up. And thus, producers and writers script out a show and ask the real people to act it. The entire thing is a farce!
Ugh, you've just reminded me why I don't watch "reality" tv! Thanks, sometimes I think I'm missing something when everyone else talks about what happened on last nights (whatever show is hottest this week). I'm not missing anything, except my own seething anger. I have more important things to be angry about, I'll stick with those.

Okay, that's a lie. It could have been much worse. But in new and different ways.
