When Bad!fic Becomes Canon

Warnings: harsh criticism, language.

I don't usually make a habit out of posting my opinion on House episodes, but after Monday's I feel I need to rant.

I loved the House/Wilson dynamic in the episode. House reading Wilson's paper to save his career was awesome. They're dynamic is pretty much the same as it has been throughout the series and it seems so real. The dialogue is believable and often comical. I love their friendship and I think I'm seriously becoming a Hilson shipper. The past few seasons have changed so much, and overall not for the better, but their relationship has remained pretty much consistent. They've had their fights and the relationship continues to grow and evolve while keeping the same dynamic between them. The only thing about this relationship that pissed me off is how quickly the writers dropped the Amber issues last season. That's not how life works, anyway, moving on.

Shockingly, I am also enjoying the Chase/Cameron dynamic. Cameron used to irritate the hell out of me, seriously, I hated her. However, with Chase she is not so irritating. Their relationship is interesting and I have to say I like those two together.

Another thing I liked about this episode is that the old team is back. Let's face it, they're better than the new team. Thirteen is basically a sex-object. I'm seriously thinking that's the only reason why the writers made her bisexual, so people would watch in hopes of some girl on girl action. This could have been used to make her interesting and to take on prevalent issues in today's society. But, no, this has basically been forgotten since episode 5X13 when there was girl on girl sex-scenes, except for when Foreman asked if she missed sleeping with women and when she decided to use what I assume was a raunchy story about her and her roommate at Sarah Lawrence to get Foreman off. Way to not only objectify and use women, but also objectify and use bisexuals and lesbians so that America could wank off. Way to use your power and influence, House writers. Also, anybody notice how Thirteen has had like triple the sex-scenes of any other character? Just because Olivia Wilde is attractive the writers have decided to put her in this box. Thirteen is a flat and boring character. I can't even call her whiny anymore. Her character has basically been reduced to a blow-up doll. Taub was okay, really, but again lacking personality. Kutner was the only interesting character who had a personality. Chase, Cameron, and Foreman are better developed characters. I'm surprised they haven't reduced Cameron to a sex-object yet, since that's basically what they've done to Cuddy and Thirteen.

What is really irritating me is how the writers have destroyed Cuddy. In Season 1 and Season 2 she was a strong, independent, career-oriented, and respectable woman. Her wardrobe was still rather questionable, but I could overlook it. There are so few strong women on TV it seriously pisses me off. It was refreshing to see a powerful woman running a hospital. Then end of Season 2 and all of Season 3 they decided that Cuddy needed a man, because what's a woman without a man? I have no problem with the idea of Cuddy wanting a relationship in and of itself. That's fine. But all of the sudden they turned her into a whiny harlot, dressing like a skank and sleeping with men on the first date. Seriously? Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, but I believe that you should wait a bit longer than the first date to sleep with someone. That just screams desperate and boy did the writers follow through with that. All of the sudden Cuddy was desperate for a man, because what's a woman without a man? What happened to running a hospital? What happened to self-sufficience. What happened to self-respect for crying out loud! Now they've reduced Cuddy to a brainless twit with a nice rack who neglects her kid and her hospital in order to get laid. And the way she keeps stringing House along only to keep saying no? That's not wrong at all, it's not like he just got out of a mental institution after hallucinating sleeping with her, or anything. Oh wait...So, basically, somehow the respectable, intelligent woman from Season 1 has been replaced with an irresponsible nymphomaniac, who reminds me of the girls who pissed me off back at my high-school. It would fit since she REGRESSES IN AGE EVERY SEASON. God forbid they have a woman over forty. She might get crows-feet and as we all know an unattractive woman is worthless. My mother happens to be nearly forty-two. She is not ugly.
Let's see, in Season 1, House had been working for her for eight years. Since, she had been Dean of Medicine since she was 32 that would make her at least forty.
Season 3, in Fetal Position, when House points out the similarities between her and the patient, it is implied that Cuddy is in her early 40's. I would guess, at least 43.
Then, in Season 4, or early Season 5, she's nearing 40.
Then BAM! In Season 5, I believe it was 5x17, Social Contract, House says SHE IS 38! EXCUSE ME?!!! Did she stumble upon the fountain of youth? I wonder how old she is this season. Judging by her recent behavior I'd guess about 15. To be fair, she was actually focused on her kid in this episode. She seemed like a reasonable adult. However, this is retracted by her once again rejected House even though she was practically flinging herself at him last season. MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MIND. I know she's with Lucas now and it makes sense that she rejected House this time, but she couldn't even explain to him what was going on. She just walked away. I understand not wanting to advertise your personal life, but stringing someone along is cruel.

The banter between House and Cuddy used to be entertaining and witty. Now it's like the writer's are forcing Huddy on the audience. I used to like the idea of Huddy, back when Cuddy was a responsible, intelligent, respectable woman who didn't fuck around with House's emotions and the dynamic between them was good. The tension between them used to be palpable. Now it's not believable. Now Cuddy isn't even a respectable character. This season has converted me to a Hilson shipper. Hilson all the way.

Broken was a great episode. After I saw it I thought that the show was going back to it's old formula, the good formula. It felt like old times when every episode used to rivet me. The next episode, with the evil dictator, was good. I loved it. Since then it's gone down hill. Monday's episode has been the worst so far.

First, did anybody else think the scene breaks were choppy and awkward? Or was it just me?

Second, the POTW, whoever that actress was, she sucked. Her acting wasn't even worthy of a commercial. It was sad. She delivered all of her lines in that irritation, slow, breathy voice. That tone she used reminded me of a really bad imitation of Sybil Trelawney from the Harry Potter series. Either that, or she smoked about ten joints before the show.

Third, they went to a medical conference...and there was an 80's party? That, to me, seems implausible. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know, but don't they have professional things to do? I could understand if there had been a dinner party, but an 80's dance? That scene reminded me of a high-school homecoming.

Fourth, this episode barely focused on the case. One of the main reasons I was first attracted to this show was it's fascinating cases. Now it just focuses on the mostly trite drama of the staff. I don't mind side-stories about the characters, like the Stacy plot in Season 2. It was interesting and well done and didn't overshadow the cases.

Fifth, House was expelled from Michigan.......where it was implied that he got his degree......well isn't that a nifty trick. One would have to be quite talented to get a degree from an institution they were also expelled from. I mean, that takes skill. Also, being expelled for CHEATING from one institution is bad enough. It's a miracle Michigan gave him a chance. Now I'm supposed to believe that he was expelled from 2 medical schools and still got a degree? Is it legit? Did he recieve it in the mail? Is "university" even spelled right on the certificate? And I suppose OJ was innocent and Jeffrey Dahmer is perfectly sane?

Honestly, I miss the old formula. Season 1 and Season 2 were the best written and most enjoyable. They won awards. They had good ratings. Yet, the writer's decided to change this. Haven't they heard the saying, "If it ain't broke don't fix it?" .
