Update since my birthday:

My parents and I went to Water Street on May 17th because it was my parent’s anniversary (that’s right, I was born the day before their anniversary).  I had some Tilapia and it was pretty good.  George and Eric picked me up to play pool.  Eric was the first friend to buy me a beer.  I had a Shiner, which I recommended George get as well.  He tried it, but I don’t think he was too keen about it.  Pool was a blast, but as with previous times I’ve played I realized I completely suck at the game.  No problem though.  I’m there to have fun, not to impress anyone.

The next day I went in at 8:00am to have all four of my wisdom teeth extracted.  My upper wisdom teeth were coming in vertically for the most part, but the bottom two were perpendicular to the other teeth.  One was even beginning to push in on the roots of the neighboring molar.  If it was left untreated, it would have eventually destroyed that tooth because the root tissue would give way to the enamel of the crown.  I had an IV put in, and the medication went to work FAST.  The procedure went for an hour, but I had no concept of time, since I was knocked out for the entire duration.  I remember waking up to the voice of the nurse and my dad talking.  It was very weird how their voices were amplified.  At times I thought I was looking around, but then it seemed like I made it up, because my eyes seemed to close on their own accord.  I remember people lifting me up, supporting me, and sitting me in a wheel chair.  I also remember thinking clearly in my head, but I started laughing and going “Whooo!!!! Whoohoo!!! This is awesome!!!” uncontrollably.  My dad got a kick out of it and said I was really high.  I was obviously in no condition to drive, so dad took me back.  I remember all of the cars being double and stuff.  Dad hit the store for Gatorade and soup, and he also hit Walgreen’s for my hydrocodone and penicillin.  I remember his telling me “DON’T go anywhere” in my anesthesia induced high.  I was asleep most of the time, but the truck got awfully hot.  I would have opened the door for circulation, but it’s a good thing he told me to sit still, because had I opened the door, I would have fallen out ragdoll style into the parking lot.  When we got home I slept for hours on end, only waking up for medication and to change the gauze.  In the evening I was already up and walking.  I checked out my wisdom teeth, because they let me keep them.  They didn’t even have to break up the upper ones, so that was cool.  I also read my mail.  My good friend Karen Denk from Century Singers sent me a birthday card that arrived that day, and it sure cheered me up!  All I had for dinner was Gatorade and beef broth.

Friday was uneventful.  I could have mushy foods, so I tried eating tiramisu for breakfast, but it wasn’t fun to clean out, so I opted not to eat anymore of that for the rest of the day.  Not much really happened though.  Hillary came in from Houston.  Next weekend Dad, Bob, Hillary, and I will be moving her out of her Houston apartment and into Bob’s house, which isn’t more than five minutes away from our home here in Corpus.  If I wasn’t helping Hillary move that weekend, I’d be going to the wedding of my good friends Danny McReynolds and Abby Nance, but Hillary really needs to be moved.  A couple of weekends later she marries Bob, and she needs those last couple of weeks to be down here.

Saturday I went to finally pick up my guitar!  Dad, mom, and I headed for Clawson’s.  I had found the guitar I liked best there on Wednesday.  It’s an acoustic and a Yamaha 730S and it’s mostly a deep, dark brown with some lighter wood in the middle.  I’ll post pictures later.  My parents paid for the guitar and I bought the case and strap with my birthday money.  Later on Hillary and Bob stopped by and dropped off my birthday present.  They bought me the New Super Mario Brothers for the Nintendo DS.  It’s a blast so far!

Anyways, I’m doing fine right now.  I’ve been off the pain medication for a while now, and the swelling is down a lot.  I still have some swelling, but it’s not bad.  I tell you though, I’m looking forward to real food, chips, and being able to drink an occasional beer again!
