.... The only drawback to having worked at Creepy Hollow all through October? It feels like I never really got to enjoy the month itself. Don't get me wrong. Narrating on a wagon was, for the most part, a blast, but it just kinda feels like I never got the chance to soak in the festivities.

At this point, Halloween is really the only holiday I find any actually joy in. I've never been very materialistic, thus Christmas doesn't hold a lot of water with me (don't look at me like that. You know you're in it for the presents just like everyone else when the December festivities roll around.). And my loathing of Thanksgiving has been building for years now. Its been ages since a Fourth of July fireworks display impressed me. Not too mention, come on... its JULY. There is nothing about the weather in July that makes me want to venture very far away from an air conditioner. Valentine's Day is a joke. And the only good of New Year's in my opinion is to get together with a couple of friends and have a pleasant evening.

But Halloween... That's raw material to work with. To revel in. To frolick about in like a zombie... celebrating... something... Okay. My metaphor train kinda derailed there. Sue me.

The point is, Halloween is fun. Its exciting. Its ritualistic and traditional heavy, but they're fun traditions (the opposite of gnawing on dry poultry and all the 'trimmin's'). A time to get creative. To stitch together new ways to be abominable. To scream and laugh. To be entertained by horrible things squelching about the underbelly of the shadows.

Actually... no... I don't feel quite so robbed. I took in at least a couple of creepy and fun movies this month. I got to put on funny clothes and look like a half dead Victorian gentlemen. I scared, freaked out, entertained, confused, or (from what I hear) impressed a good number of people. I even got to use a cane to reroute some blithering drunken fools.

And ya know... I think I'll go ahead and do it next year as well. Cause for the most part, I did one hell of a good job. Though I think next year I might have to take a day off some time mid-season to avoid the burnout that hit me the final weekend. Then again... that may have been do to working in the downpouring rain and mud on Halloween night.

Anyway. Goodbye October. I'll get one last huzzah with you this Sunday at the Creepy Hollow 'cast' party and then its all over till next year. Time to perch over my tablet and drawing table and get some serious art done.
