So I survived Creepy Hollow 'Hell week' rather nicely. It was strange being out there four nights in a row after the past couple weeks of just being out there two days at a time (The previous week was rained out on the first day of our first three day run). Rather surprised that I didn't rape my voice considering that my part of my narration schtick is jumping between three different levels of volume. Only one of which wouldn't be considered loud even with the mic. There did seem to be a raspiness in my throat come Monday morning, but it seems to have passed.
Have reason to believe that bits of the management are thinking I'm doing an awesome job judging by the roundabout info I'm hearing. Haunters also seem to enjoy what I do. But I'm taking it all with a grain of salt at this point. The important thing is that the majority of my patrons seem to be enjoying what I do. Hell, I received some kind rounds of applause out of no where a couple times this weekend so I must be doing something right.
Only three days left (Thursday through Saturday) so we'll see how the season rounds out. As of right now I think I'll definitely be returning next year as well.
Also, they finally let some of the narrators go through the Scream Forest walking trail Sunday night when business started to slack off. So Dustin and I handed the reigns of our wagons to a couple other narrators, passed them our canes and assorted possessions, and hopped a wagon down to the Scream Forest entrance. After confusing some patrons we went in.
I'm not going to discuss what's down the trail but I will say this: There's a reason why Creepy Hollow is always given high marks over the other Halloween events of its ilk. Scream Forest is that reason. Even as an employee, the sense of oppression is palpable. The sites along the trail disorient and stir discomfort even if you're able to keep reminding yourself that you're surrounded by people in costume. If I had just been a random customer, I myself probably would've been thoroughly scared at a number of points.
