Agree on the spikes! Of course if there were a way to kill you with shoulderpads, Midnighter would know it. But they're still silly.
I think the team should just loan the Carrier to Stormwatch and stay put. It feels wrong to me that, after they agonised about failing to save the world for 15+ issues, that any member of the team would leave Earth and not use any regained power they had to stick it out and clean up the mess. Here's hoping.
Oh oh oh! But here's a thought. Maybe it'll be a side effect of Warhol since some of it was missing when he came back? Hopefully they'll let him grow it out again. :)
Yes, the haircut is all wrong. To me his 90s slacker hair was always the funniest thing about Apollo's whole subverted-Superman design. Trust Warren Ellis to make Superman a scruffy hippie :)
Also, the new Authority artist has drawn him with long hair (there was a design sketch in a recent Authority issue). Dunno how that's supposed to work if the 2 books are sharing continuity, heh.
I know! *facepalm* It doesn't help that (talented artist though he is) Chris Sprouse tends towards the generic in facial features, so that several of the guys in that pic can only be differentiated by outfit/hair, and not face. Take away the hair and Apollo looks exactly like The High. I was trying not to let it annoy me too much, but... nah. I always thought the point of Apollo's design was the "anti-American" (in the McCarthy sense) notion of a scruffy, leftwing hippie Superman. To me that's as important a subversion of the Golden Age stereotype as his being gay, and Superman-as-90s-slacker is sort of the Authority in a nutshell. Um, rant.

Apollo's haircut = D:
I'm with you. It feels like The Authority is only just hitting its stride again and I don't like the idea of them being split up again.
