My weekend was pretty busy. It actually started Thursday night. I worked at the theatre, but actually took the time to see
Know's production of "After Ashley." The show revolves around the brutal murder of Ashley, a mother of questionable merit and ability. After her death, her husband takes advantage of it all as the media draws in, which makes the son defiant, as the real story behind Ashley is blurred by the media spin on it all. It's a good show, with even performances from all the cast. I am more a fan of the script and what it has to say about the media nightmare than anything else. But, it was a good show.
Friday evening, Jim picked me up after work, where we went to Clifton for a quick errand and dinner at Habaneros. After this, we made our way down to
CSC to see The Tempest. I was actually very excited to see this production as the reviews seemed to rave about and it was the first Shakespeare production I saw live back when I was in college.
Overall, the show was average. The sets were lovely, as were the costumes (although it seemed like a mishmash of costumes from different eras), but the performances were varied. I feel as though CSC is getting a little stagnant and stale in regards to their actors. It's one of the pitfalls of being a resident ensemble. Their "new" blood revolves around their Young Company, which this year isn't extremely impressive. The main ensemble just doesn't impress me anymore. They're good and we get it, but there isn't much growth. Basically, if you've seen a show at CSC in the past few years, you've seen them all.
On Saturday, Jim and I made it over to AMC Newport on the Levee to join the Cincinnati Movie Bears for their monthly meeting. We had dinner earlier (with eight in attendance) at Jax Grill, then met four more for the evening's movie selection
Hot Fuzz. The movie is absolutely hilarious and I am so glad I got to see it. It started off slow, but the pace and the laughter definitely picked up. I highly recommend it (Hell, Mark
kybearfuzz has seen it four times)!
The group of 12 makes it the most successful of the Movie Bears nights, so that's a good thing. I believe it being on a Saturday seemed to work for more people, and I think having dinner made it an excellent get-together.
Today was spent at home. Jim had the 2nd Sundays on Main event downtown and then the high school theatre awards, so I just chilled today. I watched stuff I had taped from the week and chatted some. Not a good weekend. With it being Mother's Day, I called home and got my sister. Turns out my mom was working. WORKING?!? Oh well, I guess it's necessary.
Hope everyone else had a superb weekend! :-)
