I waited three weeks for this book to come. Three weeks! But then it was here and I read in about...a day. It was just that good.
So yeah I really, really liked the book. I loved Moirin, she's sweet and kind and stubborn and tough and has epic sex, so what's not to love? I actually enjoyed the fact that she sleeps with women more often than with men.
I liked Jehanne too, tough the first thin I thought off when it's said that she's frivolous and cares more about parties than politics was of course 'Marie Antoinette'. But I think that's the first thing anyone would think of and when you get to know more about Jehanne her story really isn't similar to the one of Marie Antoinette.
My favorite scene with Jehanne was the one where Moirin accuses her of having gone back to Raphael and she gets angry and starts throwing things around.
And arhg Raphael! I knew he was evil. I just knew it. He's so urgh, selfish and, well not really cruel but self-centered and he just uses Moirin for his purposes. It's sick. But I definitely think there's going to be more going on here. Probably part of the spirit still is in him, the way Moirin fears.
But even though both Raphael and Jehanne are said to be manipulating, it's a totally different form of manipulation than with Melisande's manipulation. They play court games with each other but Melisande's games were far vaster and more complicated with much greater results.
And though this has nothing to do with Naamah's Kiss, I just have to say that Melisande is actually one character that was really awe inspiring for me, far more than wise old men like Dumbeldore or Gandalf. She's a character that I really, really respect.
So yeah, Naamah's Kiss. I'm still a bit put off by the fact that Moirin is probably going to end up with Bao, due to the whole diadh-anam thing. I know that finding love is one of the central themes in all the Terre D'Ange Books (since this isn't really a Kushiel Book) but somehow I think Moirin's character is one that could survive without having one true love.
Not that I don't love Bao. And Snow Tiger. And the possessive dragon is awesome.
