Cue Obligatory Post-Concert Post:
Okay so I just returned from 99X's Big Day In with 30 Seconds to Mars, Seether, and Audioslave. I caught all three of these bands earlier this year and NONE of the previous performances could even come close to holding a candle to the show they all put on tonight. To make things easier, I've broken up this entry into small, digestible pieces that you can all ignore and mock at your leisure.
30 Seconds To Mars
Caught these guys earlier this year at the Masquerade with my new concert group consisting of the Monkey and the Crea. The first show was lackluster at best, and my favorite song (Capricorn) was played WITHOUT musical assistance. 30 Seconds is fronted by actor Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream, The lord of War), and their set tonight was just astounding. Not only did they perform the song as it should have been performed (loud, fast, and heavy) but Leto actually ran off the stage and did an entire song in the crowd! Good stuff, now, and it's good for Leto too since I was fully prepared to rush the stage and kick him in the neck if he'd done any more a capella songs.
Seether
These bastiges were at Downtown Rocks, a free concert that turned out to be the most violent outing I've ever been to. During this show, I got beat up, banged up, and butted up (long story) but managed to at least notice the stage on at least two separate occasions before passing out. Tonight, their set was actually fairly decent, although I will contradict myself and say that their Downtown Rocks show was better.
AUDIOSLAVE!!!!
KRIKEY! That's all you can say. My first go 'round catching these guys I had so much crap going on that I dinnae even notice the band was performing up until their last song. In fact, I zoned out about halfway through the concert and Souljah had to throw a brick at me to get me to come back to reality (she missed and hit a large, angry dude). Slave's first show was at the Tabernacle, a venue roughly big enough to hold 20 fat, musty people that have an acute fear of water and soap. Arena tours are always so much better than small venue tours (if the band can is good that is) so I was lookin' forward to seeing these guys again in the aforementioned arena without all the difficulties that life threw at me that week (ya know, finals, graduation, job, and of course FINALS!..oh and finals).
Chris Cornell, Tom Morello (guitarist extreme0) and gang opened with "Your Time Has Come", a blistering ballad from their new CD entitled Out of Exile featuring one of Morello's body-shaking guitar solos. Then, they launched into Set it Off (from their first CD) and whipped the crowd into an un-containable frenzy. Nearly every song of note from their self-titled first CD and Out of Exile were played, as well as a new song from their upcoming CD and that was just the tip o' the iceberg. In typical fan-pleasing action, the crew played "Bulls on Parade", "Killing in the Name of", "Testify", "Black Hole Sun", "Spoonman", as well as about four songs from Chris Cornell's solo CD: Euphoria Morning. I looked forward to hearing "The Worm" and "Cochise", but I also noticed a lyric from "Be Yourself" that I really wish I had noticed when I saw these guys in May (note the Quotable Quote to see why it was relevant).
Hopefully those of you that had previous goat-based engagements can experience the swankyness of an Arena Tour during Audioslave's next run through Atlanta (hopefully early-mid next year) when they promote their new CD. Those bastiges, I tell ya, they put on a helluva show.
Whilst leaving the Arena I got rear ended. I was sitting at a traffic light, stopped, so was the person behind me. All of a sudden BAM! right in the rear. Since we were both sitting still there was no damage, but I'm still left wondering how the person hit me while stopped at a red light.
I am, how you say...ah yes...The Giddy.
Quotable Quote:
"Don't lose any sleep tonight, I'm sure everything will end up alright." --Audioslave, "Be Yourself."
