As a biofemale, who is in love and dating a trans woman, I want to shout from the rooftops: "BEING TRANS IS AMAZING!!!!" because I love my girlfriend.... but after living with her for a while and seeing her struggles, I can't honestly say that I believe that if you are trans in American culture, that it is amazing. Can you imagine going for a job

Word. I know some trans folks, one of which only recently transitioned (w/in lat few years.)

It's hard, so hard to take that step and tell the world, "No, THIS is who I am." And then so many face a world that says, "NO" back at them.

For about a year (when you weren't on LJ or reading me) my best friend was a male-to-female transsexual. She was my best friend at the time, one of the better friends I've ever known in my life, and a warm, supportive person. She wasn't without problems of her own, but she was one of the best people I have ever known in my life. We have since lost touch, but I remember her fondly.

People have this uncanny ability to project their own insecurities as hatreds on others.

On a happier note, a certain goat reminds me that today is your birthday. So you can shout that from the rooftops too!
