I'm planning my garden for this year. We'll be re-painting the house in yellow/cream and red accents. I should probably get ornamental plants to reflect this, but the blue hydrangea many of the bulb companies are offering this year look so enticing! There are some beautiful dutch irises too in blues and purples that really tickle me. Oh god, and blue roses too <3
In an attempt to distract myself from all the blue, I decided to look at fruits and vegetables for the other gardens. Naturally, strawberries are always a big draw. I'm thinking some Ozark beauties, though I may put them in an actual strawberry pot this year so the ants don't steal our fruits before they're picked. Patio blueberry bushes look promising as do blackberry plants. I'm not a big fan of cluster berries, but I know Andi loves them over at Yaya's house. I wonder if I should just make that a special thing for Yaya's house. Then again, I could put them to good use in my bread machine with the jam setting.
Tomatoes, melons, and squash also sounds intriguing this year. One reason I don't really plant a lot of veggies and fruits is because I don't want them to go to waste, but with us sharing more meals with family and friends, I think we could use them faster. I could take the time to learn canning and pickling too :p
In the kitchen, I've become much more confident with breads. I'm starting to comprehend the mysteries and learn new techniques for making things that people have been doing for centuries before sliced bread in the grocery store 9_9 I feel like such an idiot for only now discovering something as basic as bread baking. I still fear pies, however.
Back to my garden, I'm leaning toward high-yield plants that are thick with blooms. I'm curious to try gladiolus and foxglove. I don't know whether I want a showy garden this year or a fragrant garden. All these decisions!
