i decided to get back into writing poetry after realizing that 'sloop larsen b' - a combination of
the beach boys' song and the
antarctic ice shelf - made a hilarious and disturbingly appropriate combination. can anyone think of clever ways to relate the high-point of the beach boys critical output, which was to be followed by a magnificent crash and brian wilson's breakdown, to the sudden collapse of a 10,000 year old ice shelf? i haven't decided whether it's too hokey to use the song's rhyme pattern...but it probably is.
this was also partially inspired by al gore's film,
an inconvenient truth. whether you believe that global warming is cyclical or artificial (or some combination of the two), its warnings about the destructive possibilities of the greenland glacier's melting are downright scary.
