On Wednesday I ordered "The Humanure Handbook", Wild Fermentation, Nourishing Traditions, A Pattern Language, Putting Food By and a pickling book for $10 that Amazon recommended.
My life is about to get much better. Far and away, Wild Fermentation is the most anticipated of them all.
When I'm back in Minnesota in December, I plan on disassembling and shipping the composting toilet I built in 2004 out here to Mass. This will give me reason to go out to my garden throughout the winter on a weekly basis, which I am looking forward to. I'm sick of water-flush sewer systems. As Dawn (paraphrased) said once "what other animal moves their bodily waste with good drinking water?"
Next step is to convince my bosses at Wheatberry to put a composting toilet in our restroom there. That might take some work. I'm also perfectly fine dealing with my own shit, but less so with coworkers or the odd customer who uses our bathroom?
I'm trying to see if I can borrow a cider press to press cider - for sweet, hard, and apple cider vinegar. Maybe press 10 bushels in all? There is a pear tree along Route 9 on my way to work that I am thinking about picking. The pears are falling into the grass and I haven't yet stopped and eaten one yet, but I bet they are succulently delicious.
My nightly habit is to read A Pattern Language for a half hour before I fall asleep - it replaces reading a novel and is oddly satisfying the nitch. I haven't yet had dreams about Promenades or City Country Fingers or Activity Nodes, but I'm expecting I will one of these nights.
Padres [parents] and I are going to Boston this week. I asked Ben & Adrie (bosses) about things they'd recommend to see, and Ben mostly talked about bakeries and places to eat.
It's a shitty weekend to go to Boston, because I really want to plant my garlic (19 varieties this year!) but that will have to wait until the 28/29.
