I began Saturday by eating a Greek wrap. It was a tortilla with spinach and feta and it was very tasty. My week of meaningless vegetarianism has made me feel no different at all, I merely wake up very hungry and then eat something unsatisfying. I suppose I will have to see where it takes me. Graham arrived at the house at about half 2 and a few of us went out into town. Me and Elsa diverged from the group to get Matt his 21st birthday presents and also to find me some lunch. One benefit of having an awkward diet is that not everybody caters to you so I went off the beaten track a bit to a little cafe near the Cathedral and had some lovely quiche. Elsa picked up some bits and bobs from Tesco and we returned home to get everything ready for the evening's festivities. Me and Graham used the time we had to a record a podcast with Jay as a guest. Jay appeared anxious at first, I don't think he wanted to look wacky or as though he was making an effort to be funny but at the same time he didn't want to be boring. Me and Graham recorded some shoddy introductions which embarrassed us and were scrapped. Luckily Jay was out of the room at this point. Once he joined us we just had a general silly talk about his plans to write novels and make films. I tried to make a joke about thinking famous novels that had been adapted into films were actually the promotional book of the film and that Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" was written after "A Muppet's Christmas Carol" was released but it didn't work. Jay then pretended to be Peter Jones from Dragon's Den and we asked him the 10 questions in the back of Heat Magazine and it was very funny. Graham and I were a bit hysterical when it came to recording the bookend segments but I think it turned out well. One of our best I think.
After that there was a bit of downtime, sitting and eating, waiting for everybody from London to arrive, but once they did everybody was scattered all over the house laughing and shouting. It was a good evening but I found myself being spoken at a lot, unable to get a word in anywhere, just smiling and nodding as people barraged me with their thoughts. Which is fair enough, everybody was fucked. It just meant that by the time it finished I was exhausted. It was also 7am. Me and Elsa tried to sleep but Jack was forcing all the details of his life into everybody's ears.
I woke up along with Elsa at about half 1. I had slept badly and not long enough. Elsa went downstairs and represented me in the mass ordering of pizza while I listened to the podcast in bed and it made me laugh. Downstairs was a mess of bottles and ash trays and pillows. We sat all day eating pizza and watching DVDs. I think we watched back to the future 3. It got later and darker and before I knew it was asleep in bed.
Another late morning on Monday. I don't start at Uni until 3 o'clock so I used it as an excuse to rest. I downloaded the new Mastodon single which was pretty awesome. It feels very much like a single but it's great for what it is. Work called me asking if I could work from half 4 til 6 which is annoying as it's just a waste of time to only earn £7.50. Prostitutes earn more than that, and they even get to keep some of it. The evening was spent watching stupid tv and drinking. A few more people joined us and we played a game called smart ass. Matt, the Birthday Boy, won. Then he turned 21 and we watched Planet Earth; Mountains and Fresh water. They were amazing.
This morning I woke up about two hours too early so I lay around thinking about stand up. Eve was asleep in my study so I pottered around downstairs for a bit, made an egg sandwich and watched an Apprentice style reality panel show about becoming a tv producer. The contestants were split into two groups and each one person in each team was elected by Greg Dyke to be the producer of that team. The rest would act as runners. Their task was to create new show format that included celebrities. One team made one about the celebrities trading their autograph for an item, they then kept trading the items for new and better things. The person with the most valuable item won. The other team asked the celebrities to swap items of clothing with members of the public to see who could make the best outfit. The judge off Fame Academy did. However the producer of this show was "fired" by Greg Dyke because he was crap. After the ridiculous task he'd been asked to fulfil he was upset when he went. I have no idea why. He was able to stare his stupid profession in its stupid face and managed to get away from it. Result.
I went on a Phsycogeographical walk around Canterbury for my Narratives in Life module which I won't detail now because I'll be doing that as part of my work for it. Afterwards we met at the pub and Lucy kindly got us all a drink. I was unsure of the tone of this meeting. We were sat around with drinks etc but I think it was still a seminar. With slightly more swearing. I mentioned the Richard Herring gig tonight because his show is all about trawling through his past and self analysis to the point of madness. Then I felt awkward and other people spoke about their trips around Canterbury. There was awesome music playing and I'm annoyed I can't find any of it.
I came home to an empty house and put a potato in the oven. Elsa came home from Asda with a Microwave and a bunch of cleaning stuff. We're heading off to the Penny Theatre in about half an hour.
